Job Description

Epic Games seeks a Senior Physics Programmer to implement and maintain new physics systems in Unreal Engine 5, focusing on distributed computing, simulation determinism, and caching/playback. Responsibilities include developing scalable and performant solutions for distributed rigid body simulation, simulation coupling and determinism, and simulation caching, replay, and resimulation. The role also involves maintaining the existing physics engine and its Unreal Engine integration, along with staying current on industry techniques and technologies. Close collaboration with content creators and the engine team is essential. The ideal candidate possesses strong C++ skills, excellent math abilities, and experience with distributed, deterministic simulation systems. Prior experience in game engine physics implementation (including algorithms, optimization, and behavior) and familiarity with engines like Havok, PhysX, Bullet are required.

What You'll Do

Epic Games is looking for an Engineer with a strong passion for physics and math to help implement new physics systems and maintain existing systems in Unreal Engine 5 and beyond - with a focus on distributed computing, simulation determinism and simulation caching and playback. You will work closely with content creators and members of our engine team, building the world’s premier game physics engine technology and helping to set a new standard in simulation

In this role, you will

  • Implement and maintain new physics systems within the Unreal Engine focusing on scalable and performant solutions for: *Distributed rigid body simulation *Simulation coupling and determinism *Simulation caching, replay and resimulation
  • Maintain the existing physics engine and integration into the Unreal Engine.
  • Be forward-thinking with keeping up to date on current techniques, research, graphics data, hardware, etc.

What we're looking for

  • Strong C++ knowledge and excellent math skills
  • Experience implementing distributed, deterministic simulation systems
  • Experience implementing new systems
  • Demonstrated interest in games with 5+ years of professional experience
  • Experience with the implementation of simulation or physics systems in a game engine; including core algorithms, performance optimization, behavior, etc.
  • Experience working with other game physics engines such as Havok, PhysX, Bullet, etc.

This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA & WA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

$190,010$278,682 USD
Washington Base Pay Range
$172,736$253,347 USD
