Tesla's Power Electronics group seeks a skilled electrical engineer to design and develop power electronics converter hardware for Tesla energy products. Responsibilities include the entire hardware lifecycle: specification, design, prototyping, reliability validation, and high-volume manufacturing. Collaboration with other engineering teams is crucial. The role involves architecting and modeling new converter topologies for improved performance, as well as sustaining design activities to enhance product quality, cost, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in power converter design and a deep understanding of power electronics topologies.
Must Have:
Power converter design experience
Understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC)
High voltage power semiconductor selection expertise
Proficiency in schematic capture and simulation tools
Experience with PCB layout optimization
Skilled in using basic EE tools

What You’ll Do
Design and build hardware of power electronics converters for use in energy applications
Start to finish ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and high-volume manufacturing
Collaborate with mechanical, PCB layout, and firmware engineering teams to successfully to design, validate and manufacture power converters
Architecture and modeling of new power converter topologies that achieve better performance
Perform sustaining design activities to improve product quality, cost and/or manufacturability of existing power electronics products
What You’ll Bring
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
Relevant hands-on hardware experience in power converter design and strong understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC)
Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit design
Strong knowledge of switching waveforms, semiconductor loss modeling, magnetics, capacitors, and analog/digital circuit design for power conversion
Proficiency in schematic capture, power converter simulation tools, and PCB layout optimization for manufacturability, EMC, and minimal parasitics optimization.
Skilled in working with basic EE tools like Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators, etc.)
