Job Description

As a Senior Product Counsel, you will work closely with various teams to provide legal advice and support on product-related matters, including design, development, and compliance. Your responsibilities will involve advising on product lifecycle stages, supporting the sales cycle, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and drafting commercial agreements. You will also be responsible for training and providing legal counsel to internal teams. This role requires a deep understanding of technology and the ability to apply legal principles in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should possess strong analytical and communication skills, along with a proactive approach to legal issues in product development.
Must have:
  • Minimum 8 years of in-house experience, preferably in tech.
  • Experience with intellectual property, licensing, and trade compliance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with product managers and engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Law degree from a reputable university
Good to have:
  • Prior product counseling experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HIPAA compliance is highly desired.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Senior Product Counsel to join our Legal team and provide advice and support to our management and internal clients on various product-related areas, including product design, development and release, product marketing, data protection, security, and compliance. This role requires a business-minded in-house lawyer who will partner with multiple innovative product teams globally to ensure that the company's products and services are structured to achieve the business strategy while complying with applicable regulations in multiple jurisdictions. 
 
In this role, you will:
 
  • Partner closely with product management, engineering, design, product marketing, support, operations, and compliance teams and provide strategic counsel and advice on a wide variety of complex and developing legal, regulatory, and compliance issues in connection with the delivery of cloud services.
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor in product planning and strategy sessions.
  • Advise on requirements affecting all stages of a product's life cycle, including design, development, marketing, public relations, product launch and distribution, and related product regulatory concerns. 
  • Support the sales cycle, including developing and managing options for company agreements (including with customers, partners, and vendors), answering questions, providing documentation, facilitating sales execution, and negotiating agreements alongside commercial counsel. 
  • Serve as a liaison and issue spotter for other legal team members in a matrixed organization with product teams, including in the areas of intellectual property, privacy, security, and trade compliance. 
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations and company policy dealing with intellectual property, privacy, security, trade compliance, and other applicable laws. 
  • Analyze, structure, draft, and negotiate technology development, licensing, and other commercial agreements and provide ongoing legal counseling in the areas of intellectual property, technology, and licensing. 
  • Review, draft and advise on advertising and marketing materials, including press releases, packaging, product launch collateral, sweepstakes, promotions, and other related items.
  • Conduct training for the legal team as well as internal teams.
Your background:
 
  • Law degree from a reputable university. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant in-house experience, preferably in the technology industry, with a focus on software, SaaS, and cloud offerings. 
  • Prior product counseling experience is strongly preferred.
  • Significant experience with intellectual property, licensing, privacy, and trade compliance in the technology sector. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with product managers and engineers and apply legal principles based on an understanding of technology architectures and principles.
  • Able to multi-task, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and interface with internal departments and all levels of management.
  • Maintain a current understanding of best practices related to legal issues in product development and marketing for technology companies.
  • Experience with HIPAA compliance is highly desired.
