Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Robotics and IoT Integration Engineer to lead robotics projects at Autodesk Research’s Technology Center in Boston. Reporting to the Senior Manager, this role involves close collaboration with Research Engineers across North America to drive projects in robotics and IoT sensor integration, supporting innovative research and product development, including work on digital twins. The role requires quarterly travel to our robotics lab in San Francisco.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead design, integration, and deployment of robotic cells for manufacturing and construction research projects, including custom end effectors, tooling, fixtures, and safety systems

  • Configure IoT devices, machine communications, and advanced sensors (e.g., vision systems, force/torque sensors) to create autonomous workflows and IoT-enabled environments

  • Connect and test data streams using Tandem Connect and other protocols like MTConnect and OPC UA to support data flow into digital twins

  • Collaborate with industry partners to deliver innovative robotic solutions, including turnkey and custom programming for construction, manufacturing, and industrial automation

  • Support CNC programming, digital fabrication workflows, and advanced manufacturing techniques to enable precise automation.

  • Drive innovation using the robotics hardware at the Boston Technology Center, which includes industrial, collaborative, and mobile robots

  • Contribute to developing the Digital Twin of the Autodesk Technology Centers

  • Support maintenance and daily operations of the Boston Technology Center

  • Promote safety for staff, researchers, and visitors

  • Provide robotics expertise and training to workshop users from research, product, and resident teams

  • Foster collaborations with leading organizations in the Boston area

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with industrial robots (e.g., ABB, KUKA, FANUC)

  • Experience with collaborative robots (e.g., UR10, Universal Robots)

  • Knowledge of IoT device protocols such as MQTT, MTConnect, and OPC UA

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced prototyping environment with CNC equipment

  • Adaptable and committed to continuous learning

  • Strong communication skills, including customer interaction

  • Minimum 5 years in robotics or a related engineering field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred

  • Experience working in facilities managing industrial equipment and engaging with customers

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $85,400 and $147,400. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
