Job Description

As a Senior Security Service Engineer in Microsoft Digital's Network Defense Engineering team, you'll empower engineering teams to achieve security, reliability, and availability goals. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining security standards, conducting vulnerability management analyses, ensuring compliance, defining standards, managing access, identifying and addressing security gaps, leveraging data for solutions management, and publishing self-service guidance. You'll work closely with other experts, investigate threats, coordinate responses, partner on secure designs, automate processes, and enhance hybrid network security. You'll implement solutions, monitor telemetry, troubleshoot issues, deploy fixes, and implement automations. Collaboration, proactive information sharing, conflict resolution, and mentoring are key aspects of the role. On-call rotations are involved for incident resolution and documentation.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 3+ years experience in relevant engineering
  • Experience with large-scale cloud/distributed systems
  • Network infrastructure management experience
  • InfoSec/SecOps/SOC experience
Good to have:

As a Senior Security Service Engineer in the Network Defense Engineering team, you will empower network engineering and software development teams to achieve their security, reliability, and availability goals. You will lead the creation and maintenance of security standards and policies, conduct deep dive analyses in vulnerability management, and ensure compliance of network infrastructure. Additionally, you will define standards, manage access, identify and address security gaps, leverage data skills for analysis and driving solutions management, and publish self-service guidance and services. This role offers the opportunity to enhance your security skills and demonstrate your ability to envision and execute end-to-end solutions. You will drive impact across a geographically dispersed team within an inclusive global infrastructure management organization.  

 

This position is part of a hybrid workplace and flexible work arrangements are available. The general working schedule will require alignment to a Redmond, WA business day.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
  • Experience managing, designing, or supporting network infrastructure (cloud and/or on premise). 
  • Experience in InfoSec, SecOps, SOC, CSOC, CDOC or similar.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Management Information Systems (MIS), or other industry or product specific Engineering Certifications.

Service Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other cloud and physical network infrastructure security experts across Microsoft to investigate threats, coordinate response and remediation, partner with engineering teams on secure network design and policy, improve and automate processes, and contribute your experience and expertise to enhance the security of our hybrid network environment. 
  • Independently implement high-performance solutions across teams while maintaining a quality checklist. You’ll also create and monitor telemetry data and influence analytics to better identify patterns that reveal errors and unexpected problems. 
  • Respond to incidents and complex issues by identifying and troubleshooting the issue, deploying the appropriate fixes, and implementing automations to prevent recurring issues. You’ll also follow prescriptive guidance for security, privacy, and compliance standards. 
  • Collaborate within and across teams by proactively and systematically sharing information. You’ll also resolve conflicts across teams and engage with partners to meet mutual objectives. 
  • Improve the development and operations of related sets of systems, platforms, or products by sharing insights and best practices. You’ll do this by continually developing your understanding of insights and best practices, and by mentoring other engineers. 
  • Participate in on-call rotations to resolve live site incidents, minimize customer impact, and document solutions and insights that inform ongoing improvements to infrastructure, code, tools, and/or processes that prevent the recurrence of similar issues.
