As a Senior Software Development Engineer, Advertising Technology, you will design, develop, and enhance Expedia Group's next-generation advertising products. You will work with a team to build and scale high-performance systems, improve operational efficiency, and improve the advertiser experience. You will also contribute to architectural improvements, and mentor junior engineers. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to collaborate across various teams to deliver value to advertisers. The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $161,000.00 to $225,500.00, with the potential to increase their pay up to $257,500.00 based on performance.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with scalable systems

Senior Software Development Engineer, Advertising Technology 

 

Introduction to team

We are the Expedia Group Advertising team - as a global leader in travel industry advertising, we connect advertisers with millions of travelers. We are seeking a talented and results-driven Senior Software Engineer, Advertising Technology. In this role, you will work with a team of dedicated engineers to develop and enhance our next-generation advertising suite of products. Your technical expertise and collaborative approach will help deliver impactful solutions for advertisers and travelers worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and scaling high-performance systems that support Expedia Group’s expanding advertising network. Your focus will be on designing innovative solutions, driving operational excellence, and contributing to the success of a collaborative engineering team.

In this role, you will:  

  • Design and Develop: Create architecture designs and implement scalable, reliable, high-performance systems that power advertisers’ campaigns across platforms
  • Enhance Advertiser Experience: Measure and optimize performance to increase efficiency and improve advertiser’s experience with our services
  • Champion developer experience: Influence the architecture and evolution of our B2B platforms by evaluating and improving internal frameworks and development patterns that enables higher efficiency across the organization
  • Innovate Continuously: Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies in advertising technology, identifying opportunities to integrate new approaches and improve our platform 
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely across organizations including product, operations, and other engineer teams to deliver value to advertisers 
  • Team Excellence: Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team. Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, helping them grow their technical skills and advance their careers 

Experience and qualifications: 

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field highly preferred; a Master’s degree a plus; or equivalent in related industry experience
  • Technical Expertise: 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on designing and building scalable and resilient systems
  • Proficiency in full-stack development: Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, Scala, Kotlin, JavaScript; frameworks and methodologies such as APIs, microservices, and cloud-based architectures
  • Operational excellence: Proven track record of developing highly reliable and scalable services including improving operational efficiency through performance tuning and test automation
  • Architectural influence: Experience with driving shared frameworks in a large-scale engineering organization. Ability to advocate for change and align stakeholders around improved developer and customer outcomes
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to tackle complex technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions
  • Strong Communication: Ability to effectively convey technical concepts and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
