As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Networking, you'll design, build, and maintain the network infrastructure for Azure. Responsibilities involve collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements, develop design documents, implement and optimize code (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python), and act as a DRI for system monitoring and issue resolution. You will work on highly scalable software, automations, and contribute to all aspects of the software lifecycle. The role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, networking protocols (TCP, BGP, IP routing, IPv6), and problem-solving skills to maintain system performance and reliability at a massive scale. You will also proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns to improve product performance and scalability.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 4+ years of technical engineering experience
  • Proficiency in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Experience with highly reliable distributed systems
  • Understanding of networking protocols (TCP, BGP, IP routing, IPv6)
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of microservices, service fabric, Azure DevOps, Redis, Bootstrap

As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing core network infrastructure services for Azure, Bing, and other Microsoft cloud services. In Azure Networking, we are at the very front of Cloud Computing by running one of the largest data centre networks in the world.


As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Networking, you will gain marketable experience in massive scale data centre network architecture, design, network infrastructure automatic management, software defined networking and high scalable/available/reliable distributed service design/implementation.

Microsoft Azure is expanding its team in Australia and is looking for dynamic individuals to work in various service devops teams. The ideal candidate would be adaptable and able to become a subject matter expert across a variety of services and systems throughout their career.

 

The team develops and operates highly scalable software supporting Azure Networking including automations that maintain the configuration of our network. Many software engineers are involved in all aspects of the life cycle including software design, implementation, deployment and operations. Others are involved in advanced monitoring, analysis, and alerting for security events.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge about highly reliable distributed system, micro service, service fabric, Azure Devops, Redis, Bootstrap
  • Familiar with common network protocols, such as TCP, BGP, IP routing, IPv6 etc., experience on networking router configuration
  • Technical passion and terrific problem-solving skills to drive for result and impact
  • Any experience with network security

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • To be able to identify root causes of network issues and system performance bottlenecks, propose simple and implementable technical solutions and actively reach out to customers to solve their pain points.
