As a Senior Software Engineer for Scout Motor’s digital products, you will develop and enhance software from concept to deployment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable solutions for mobile and desktop applications, vehicle connectivity, mapping, and optimization. This role involves hands-on system building, leading complex technical efforts, and mentoring junior engineers, contributing to the revolution of all-electric trucks and SUVs. You will ensure scalability, reliability, and performance while implementing best practices.
Must have:
  • Play a key role in the development and enhancement of software products from concept to deployment.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement scalable and robust solutions.
  • Be hands-on building key systems and directly responsible for successful delivery of complex technical efforts.
  • Act as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers.
  • Work with engineers and technical leaders to ship interoperable products and systems.
  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of complex software systems, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Implement single sign-on solutions for secure user authentication across multiple applications.
  • Design, implement, and support identity, access, and profile services for web, mobile, and vehicle apps.
  • Implement best practices and standards for software development, including code reviews and testing.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, providing guidance and support.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously learning and experimenting.

  • Prior working experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment
  • Hands-on experience building on AWS using Go and/or Python
  • Full-stack development

What you will do:

As the Senior Software Engineer for Scout Motor’s digital products, you will play a key role in the development and enhancement of our software products, from concept to deployment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement scalable and robust solutions that meet our customers' needs and exceed their expectations. Some of the key products as part of digital portfolio are – mobile and desktop applications, vehicle connectivity solutions, mapping services, production, inventory and planning optimization, servicing and repairs, and more. At the same time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to be hands-on building key systems and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex and large-scale technical efforts as well acting as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers.

  • Work with engineers & technical leaders across the company to ship interoperable products and systems on strong foundations that manage customer interactions inside and outside of the vehicle.
  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of complex software systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications and deliverables.
  • Implement single sign-on solutions to allow users to authenticate once and access multiple applications securely. Design, implement and support identity, access and profile related services for multiple web applications, mobile apps and vehicle apps supporting internal and customer as users.
  • Implement best practices and standards for software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow and succeed.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously learning and experimenting with new tools and techniques to improve our software development process.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, CA.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 2 days per week attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Education/Certifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Years of Experience required in type of role: 8+ years in software development, with a focus on back-end technologies
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in one of the following languages: Go, Node.js, Python, Java, or Ruby
  • Experience with both relational and/or non-relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
  • Experience with identity management systems (e.g., Azure AD, AWS Cognito, LDAP, Okta, Keyclock) and directory services for user authentication and management
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for finding elegant solutions to complex challenges
  • Optional/suggestions:
  • Prior working experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment
  • Hands-on experience building on AWS using Go and/or Python
  • Full-stack development

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00

Initial California base salary range = $150,000.00 - $185,000.00
