Job Description

Google Photos seeks a Senior Software Engineer for its Engineering Productivity team. This role involves writing, testing, and reviewing code; leading engineering teams; designing and deploying high-quality projects; and troubleshooting system issues. Responsibilities include managing project priorities, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to best practices. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of software development experience (Java, Python, C++, Golang), 3+ years of experience testing/launching software, and strong experience in data structures, algorithms, and software design. Experience with distributed systems and experimentation solutions is preferred. The role focuses on improving the indexing engine of Google Photos, a widely-used photo sharing and storage service.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience
3+ years testing/launching software
Experience with data structures/algorithms
Software design and architecture experience
Code review and feedback
Project leadership

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS
Technical leadership experience
Experience with experimentation solutions
Experience building distributed systems
Independent project completion

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, Golang, etc.), and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience in building experimentation solutions.
Experience building distributed systems.
Ability to design and complete projects independently.
Ability to ramp up and learn in a technical domain.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code, participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
Lead a team of engineers to drive outcomes of Indexing Engine development experience solutions.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Build and roll out projects with quality and speed, including end-user documentation, production deployment/monitoring, process automation, and customer support as needed.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
