Job Description

The Senior SQL Server DBA will design, develop, and maintain database systems for Warner Bros. Discovery. Responsibilities include coordinating DBA activities with the infrastructure team, participating in new projects (defining database strategy, architecture, and standards), deploying and managing database servers (on-prem and cloud), and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The role also involves reviewing and improving database monitoring and backup strategies, developing SQL for monitoring, implementing new technologies, and designing high-availability and business continuity plans. Creating and maintaining database and operational documentation is also crucial.

Must have:

5+ years SQL Server experience
Database administration expertise (clustering, availability groups, replication, SSIS, SSRS)
Disaster Recovery and High Availability implementation
Troubleshooting complex database issues
Developing standard procedures for scalability and performance

Good to have:

Experience with Oracle, SAP Hana, db2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks
AWS or Azure cloud experience (PASS and SASS implementations)
PowerShell and Windows BAT scripting

Your New Role:

You will be working with a global team of professionals to design and develop database systems and to provide guidance to customers on database structures and features. You will create standard procedures to enhance scalability and performance of existing database architecture. You will need to be able to troubleshoot complex database issues in accurate and timely manner. You will need to develop and maintain database disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuous availability and speedy recovery.

Your Role Accountabilities:

Coordinates DBA activities with the infrastructure team to ensure database servers are built according to customer requirements in a timely manner.

Participates in New Projects - Defining database strategy, architecture, standards, and procedures to uphold the integrity and security of company data resources.

Deploying, upgrading, relocating, and decommissioning database servers both on-prem and in the cloud.

Being part of the team that includes participation in an On-Call rotation to provide our customers 24/7 support.

STRATEGY

Reviewing the existing database monitoring and backup strategy and come up with a new strategy based on the business requirements.

Participates in developing and maintaining SQL for monitoring database conditions and activities.

Participate in identifying, proposing and implementing new and emerging technologies to support ongoing projects and business operations.

ANALYTICS

Work with the team leads to designing, implementing, and testing high availability and business continuity plans for our Tier 1 applications.

Creating, reviewing and maintaining database documentation.

Creating, reviewing and maintaining operational documentation that can be used by our 24/7 operations team and junior database administrators.

Qualifications & Experiences:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or information technology.

5+ years of experience in implementing, performance tuning, and supporting databases, with a focus on SQL Server.

Very good experience in database administration in all aspects of the SQL Server platform including clustering, availability group, replication, SSIS, and SSRS.

Ability and experience with the development of processes and procedures to standardize Database installations and configuration.

Extensive experience with implementation and maintenance of Disaster Recovery and High availability.

Ability to work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious.

Preferred experience:

Experience with other technologies like Oracle, SAP Hana, db2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, snowflake, and databricks will be considered a plus.

Experience working on databases that are hosted on-prem as well as the AWS or Azure cloud (PASS and SASS implementations).

Experience automating, scripting, and streamlining processes for efficiency and accuracy utilizing PowerShell scripting and Windows BAT.
