Meet Our Team: Software engineering teams in WBD’s Direct-to-consumer (DTC) division build and deliver applications and services powering the customer experience of products such as MAX, which run on connected TVs, set-top boxes, smartphones, tablets, consoles, PCs, and other streaming devices.
DTC’s Observability teams are responsible for unifying operationally relevant data within WBD’s technical ecosystem — distilling it into navigable, understandable, and actionable insights for our colleagues in the broader WBD Engineering community. We design the systems which ingest, process, retain, measure, analyze, and visualize the clues in hundreds of terabytes of event logs, metrics, distributed traces, and catalog data every single day. We provide solutions to help more effectively operate our streaming products and services at scale.
In this role:
You lead the design and development of DTC’s Observability Platform, including Metrics, Logging, Tracing, Metering, Operational Data Catalog and more.
You are a technical expert with working knowledge of Observability industry best practices and in-depth knowledge of industry trends.
You help teams decompose complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions which contribute to the company's intellectual property, through the design and development of reliable, self-service cloud platforms.
You can map strategic business goals to a long-term technology architecture and use your initiative to collaborate autonomously with cross-functional roles, to define or solve department-wide problems.
You challenge business requirements and transform them into general solutions that are usable by other parts of the business, avoiding duplication.
You define and model the implementation of good software engineering and participate in peer feedback processes.
You provide feedback to hiring managers on candidates and advocate for an inclusive and supportive engineering culture across all teams. You coach and mentor up to staff level and provide input to leadership on developmental needs and growth opportunities for team members.
Required Experiences and Skills:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent software development background.
12+ years relevant software development experience.
5+ years of experience and a high level of technical leadership in large-scale Observability solutions encompassing metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
Expertise architecting and managing technologies in our stack, including ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Prometheus, Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Timestream, Lambda, and Kubernetes running on public clouds such as AWS and built using IAC tools such as Terraform.
Experience with commercial and open-source technologies in the log management, distributed tracing, and analytics domains, such as LogStash, Splunk, Zipkin, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, etc.
Proficiency in software and infrastructure development principles, design patterns, and data structures.
Proficiency with strong object-oriented design and programming skills.
Demonstrated experience in developing scalable web services built upon distributed systems.
Proficiency with various development tools and techniques.
Preferred Experiences and Skills:
Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals and a proven track record of implementing reliable software in an “always-on” environment.
Ability to drive best practices and establish standards for your team.
Experience collaborating in hybrid remote/in-office teams across multiple regions and time zones.
What We Offer:
A Great Place to work
Challenging, fast-paced environment
Equal opportunity employer
Fast track growth opportunities
How We Get Things Done…
This last bit is probably the most important! Here at WBD, our guiding principles are the core values by which we operate and are central to how we get things done. You can find them at www.wbd.com/guiding-principles/ along with some insights from the team on what they mean and how they show up in their day to day. We hope they resonate with you and look forward to discussing them during your interview.
