Zoox is seeking a seasoned Technical Lead/Android Engineer for its In-Vehicle Experience Engineering team. This role offers significant independence and the opportunity to influence the In-Vehicle rider experience roadmap. The work is highly visible and at the forefront of service rollouts. Responsibilities include managing and owning the design and implementation of Zoox's user-facing Android tablet applications and embedded infotainment systems based on Android AOSP. The engineer will also set and implement best practices in mobile development and collaborate with design and product teams to enhance the rider experience.
Must have:
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Strong Android and Kotlin development
- Deep understanding of Android UI and backend mobile development
- Experience building high-quality mobile apps from scratch
- Long-term ownership of public-facing applications through multiple releases
Good to have:
- Experience with custom/specialized Android devices
- AOSP or other embedded Linux experience
- Proven leadership in mobile development

Job Details
Zoox is looking for a seasoned Technical Lead/Android Engineer to join the In-Vehicle Experience Engineering team. The position comes with a high degree of independence and the opportunity to help shape our In-Vehicle rider experience roadmap. Your work will be highly visible, at the forefront of our service rollout. In your development work, and in interactions with infrastructure teams, we will expect you to be essential in establishing practices and interfaces that result in a robust, usable, and secure system: from Rider, to AWS Cloud, to Zoox’s self-driving vehicle.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and own the design and implementation of Zoox’s user-facing applications for Android tablet as well as embedded environments (infotainment console based on Android AOSP).
- Set and implement current best practices in mobile development.
- Independently collaborate with our talented design and product teams on identifying and solving questions about how our users (riders) can access Zoox services in the most efficient and intuitive manner.
Qualifications
- BS / MS in Computer Science or similar degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong background in development in Android and Kotlin development specifically.
- Deep understanding of Android UI and “backend” mobile development.
- Demonstrated experience building high-quality mobile apps from scratch all the way to production and ongoing maintenance.
- Verifiable long-term ownership of public-facing applications through multiple releases.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with custom/specialized Android devices, AOSP or other embedded Linux.
- Proven leadership in mobile development.
- Meaningful contribution and ownership of a highly-popular, heavily downloaded app.
$192,000 - $260,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
