Job Description

Rockstar Games seeks a Software Engineer proficient in C# or Java to contribute to the development and maintenance of internal tools used across all departments. Responsibilities include writing clean, testable code, collaborating with users and designers to gather requirements, debugging, and providing updates on task progress. The role involves participation in code reviews, ensuring system stability, and maintaining a high-quality user experience. This full-time, permanent position is based in Edinburgh, Scotland and focuses primarily on enhancing Rockstar's internal task tracking and project management system. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.
Must have:
  • Proficiency in C# or Java
  • Full-stack development experience
  • Familiarity with WPF and XAML
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL)
  • Agile development practices
  • Excellent communication skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with asynchronous code
  • REST API design best practices
  • Unit testing or TDD
  • CI/CD experience (TeamCity)
  • Figma or similar design platform
  • Knowledge of Spring Framework, Hibernate, or MVVM

This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s state-of-the-art game development studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. 

WHAT WE DO

  • We create and maintain software tools that are used by staff across all departments and disciplines, to support the production and development of Rockstar Games.
  • Our primary responsibility is maintaining and evolving Rockstar’s internal task tracking and project management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write quality, maintainable, and testable code, following the Information Systems team’s coding guidelines, to fix bugs and implement new features.
  • Work closely with users and UX designers to gather requirements and debug problems.
  • Accurately and effectively communicate with other team members across our global studios, giving meaningful updates on task progress, any issues encountered, suggestions for improvements etc.
  • Participation in the code review process, offering guidance and feedback to less experienced members of the team.
  • Helping to ensure the continued stability and reliability of our products and systems.
  • Helping to ensure a high quality and consistent user experience throughout our tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.

SKILLS

  • Fluent in either C# or Java.
  • Full stack development.
  • Familiarity with WPF and XAML.
  • Familiarity with Spring Framework.
  • Knowledge of the MVVM application architecture.
  • Familiarity with Hibernate, or similar ORM
  • Familiarity with MySQL / relational databases.
  • Ability to work well within a cross-studio team.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
  • Strong communication skills.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Experience writing and debugging asynchronous code.
  • Understanding of REST API design best practices.
  • Experience writing unit tests, or with test-driven development.
  • Passion for development and games, especially Rockstar products.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems such as TeamCity.
  • An ability to consider the wider architecture of a system, focusing on the bigger picture, rather than individual tasks.
  • Experience using Figma, or similar design platform.
