Job Description

As a Software Engineer in Computational Photography for the Pixel Camera team at Google, you'll shape the future of mobile photography. Responsibilities include developing novel image processing technologies, applying machine learning to advance mobile photography, and leading the full algorithm development lifecycle – from concept to on-device implementation and optimization. You'll collaborate with diverse teams to leverage hardware capabilities and deliver exceptional user experiences, defining the distinctive look and feel of Pixel photography. This role demands expertise in computational photography and machine learning, and involves close collaboration with product and engineering teams.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years software development experience
  • 2+ years ML/AI experience in camera-related domains

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures or algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools, artificial intelligence, deep learning and camera related domains, (e.g., computational photography).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience in image/signal processing, computer vision, or machine learning, with a proven track record of applying these skills to solve complex problems.
  • Expertise in one or more camera or image disciplines, such as tone mapping, color science, camera optics, or subjective image quality assessment.
  • Passion for photography.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, fluid environment.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of mobile photography by working on core algorithms on Pixel products. Your work will directly enhance the photography and cinematography experience for Pixel users. This involves both improving image quality and creating innovative computational photography features.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of solutions, from algorithm design and implementation to quality evaluation, performance optimization, and ultimately, deployment to Pixel devices. You will collaborate with a diverse team of software engineers, hardware engineers, researchers, and image scientists across the Google to push the boundaries of the modern mobile imaging system, commercialize new features, and develop the architecture for the future products. You will play a key role in driving projects forward and demonstrating leadership.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel image processing technologies to power new camera features and push Image Quality (IQ) boundaries. 
  • Apply your expertise in computational photography and/or machine learning to create groundbreaking advancements in mobile photography.
  • Lead the full-cycle of algorithm development, from ideation and proof-of-concept to on-device implementation, optimization, integration, rigorous testing, validation, and ultimately, delivering delightful experiences to our users.
  • Contribute to shaping the distinctive look and feel of Pixel photography.
  • Collaborate closely with product teams to define issue statements and work alongside hardware, software, firmware, and research teams to prototype, integrate, and optimize algorithms that leverage the full potential of our hardware capabilities.
