As a Software Engineer, Embedded Platform at Cobot, you will be responsible for building embedded systems that form the backbone of next-generation robotic platforms. You will be involved in solving deep technical challenges at the intersection of hardware and software. This role requires you to develop and manage the lifecycle of embedded software across a large fleet of devices, ensuring robust Over-The-Air (OTA) update mechanisms and monitoring field software health. You will also be responsible for driving process improvements for Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and release management in embedded environments. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge embedded Linux platforms and create robust, scalable infrastructure for deployed robots, playing a critical part in the development and lifecycle management of the embedded software stack powering our robots in the field.
Must have:
  • 3+ years experience in Embedded Systems or Software Engineering.
  • Experience with containerization tools (Docker).
  • Experience with embedded Linux development tools.
  • Comfortable debugging system-level issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Willing to occasionally travel.
  • Must have US work authorization.
Good to have:
  • 5+ years of experience in Embedded Systems or Software Engineering.
  • Experience with Nvidia-tegra or similar embedded platforms.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems.
  • Experience with cloud tools for remote deployment.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for embedded projects.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2 and robotic systems.

This role is located at our Santa Clara, CA headquarters. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the development and deployment cycle of embedded software across a large fleet of devices. 
  • Ensure robust OTA update mechanisms and monitor field software health.
  • Drive process improvements for CI/CD and release management in embedded environments.
  • Develop and maintain custom Linux distributions and kernel modules tailored to platform needs.
  • Enable portable application code across device variants.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of experience in Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with containerization tools (Docker) in embedded or cross-compilation workflows.
  • Experience with embedded linux development tools such as Yocto or buildroot.
  • Comfortable debugging system-level issues across firmware, kernel, and user space.
  • Highly motivated teammate with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced, collaborative and dynamic start-up environment as part of a small team.
  • Willing to occasionally travel.
  • Must have and maintain US work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with Nvidia-tegra or similar embedded platforms (e.g., Jetson, Ryzen Embedded) and associated toolchains.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems such as ZephyrRTOS
  • Experience with cloud tools for remote deployment, monitoring, and logging of embedded software.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for embedded projects (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Experience with ROS/ROS2 and robotic systems. 

The base salary range for this position is $175,000-$195,000 plus equity and comprehensive benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the noted geographic area. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
