Summary

Google is seeking a Software Engineer for Embedded Systems/Firmware for its Pixel devices. This role involves designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions. Responsibilities include writing product/system development code, participating in design reviews, code review, contributing to documentation, and troubleshooting product/system issues. The ideal candidate will have experience with embedded operating systems, Linux Kernel, performance analysis tools, and data structures/algorithms. Experience with Android BSP, Android Internals, and Android Kernel is preferred. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years software development experience
  • 2+ years embedded OS experience
  • Linux Kernel experience
  • Performance analysis expertise
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS
  • Experience with large-scale systems
  • Android BSP/Internals/Kernel experience
  • Understanding of embedded device internals

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience with Linux Kernel.
  • Experience in performance analysis and using performance analysis tools such as CPU profiler, GPU profiler, etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience with Android BSP, Android Internals, Android Kernel.
  • Understanding of embedded device internals in both software and hardware, including memory management, CPU scheduling and system architecture.

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
