Job Description

Google is seeking a Software Engineer II, Backend, to join its Meet Media team. This role involves developing and maintaining backend infrastructure supporting Google Meet's audio and video processing. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, contributing to documentation, debugging system issues, and developing cloud-side infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in software development (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript), data structures and algorithms, and ideally experience with web/mobile app development, distributed systems, or machine learning. The engineer will work on projects critical to Google's needs, with opportunities for team and project changes.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
1 year software development experience (Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript)
1 year experience with data structures/algorithms
Develop cloud-side audio/video processing infrastructure
Code writing and review
Debugging and issue resolution

Good to have:

Web/mobile app development experience
Unix/Linux experience
Distributed and parallel systems experience
Machine learning experience
Experience with accessible technologies
Excellent problem-solving skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working with web/mobile application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, networking, or similar.
Experience developing accessible technologies.
Excellent problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Develop infrastructure that supports Meet's need for cloud-side audio and video processing.
