Google Cloud seeks a Software Engineer III to develop next-generation technologies for Cloud SQL infrastructure. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, participating in design reviews, contributing to documentation, and triaging/resolving system issues. The ideal candidate has experience with large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, Golang/Java development, cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), and relational databases. Experience with performance analysis, debugging, open-source databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), and building managed services is preferred. This role involves working on critical projects and opportunities to switch teams as the business evolves.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years experience with large-scale infrastructure or cloud services
  • 2+ years software development experience (Golang or Java)
  • Relational database experience
  • Write and review code, participate in design reviews
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in CS
  • Experience with performance analysis and debugging
  • Open-source database (PostgreSQL, MySQL) experience
  • Relational database replication and migration experience
  • Building managed services (Database or Storage) experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in Golang or Java, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with relational databases and building cloud database services

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with performance, large scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.
  • Experience with contributing to open source databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Experience with relational databases replication and migration.
  • Experience in designing and developing performance intensive systems w/multithreading and synchronization.
  • Experience in building managed services, especially Database or Storage.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
