Job Description

Google Photos is seeking Software Engineers to contribute to the development and improvement of its photo sharing and storage service. This role involves writing and reviewing code, leading design reviews, debugging and resolving system issues, and contributing to documentation. Engineers will work on various aspects of the product, including client-side (web and mobile), server-side (search, storage, serving), and machine intelligence (learning, computer vision). Responsibilities include contributing to product development, leading design reviews, code review, and troubleshooting system issues. The ideal candidate will possess strong software development skills, experience with data structures and algorithms, and a passion for creating user-centered experiences. This role offers opportunities to work on a critical Google product and collaborate with a talented team.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
2 years software development experience (or 1 year with advanced degree)
2 years experience with data structures/algorithms
Code writing, design reviews, debugging

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS
Experience with large-scale systems
Experience with accessible technologies
Software test engineering experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
2 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools or debugging.
Experience developing accessible technologies.
Experience in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.

Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.
Lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
