Software Engineer, UI & Gameplay – World of Warcraft

The World of Warcraft team is looking for a versatile engineer to implement User Interface and Gameplay features for World of Warcraft’s periodic content update schedule. You will work with designers, artists, and fellow engineers to collaboratively define and implement systems and UIs that support features like the Trading Post, Plunderstorm, or Mists of Pandaria: Remix.

This role is a hybrid work position, with some work-from-home and some work on-site at our studio in Boston, Massachusetts.

What you will do…

• Work closely with designers and artists to provide technical guidance for features
• Implement functional and elegant UI features from approved concept images and paper designs
• Implement client/server gameplay features that account for latency and bandwidth
• Debug, fix and improve existing gameplay and UI features
• Develop back-end functionality to support front-end features
• Participate in and contribute to a culture of transparency, inclusion, and diversity

To succeed you must…

• Proficiency in C++ or a similar programming language
• Knowledge of modern data structures and algorithms
• Willingness to learn and work within an existing codebase
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills

We’re also interested in hearing about…

• Knowledge of high-level scripting languages such as Lua, Python
• Experience with developing UI addons for World of Warcraft
• Knowledge of World of Warcraft or other MMORPGs

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $37.26 - $68.93 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
