The Software Engineering Intern - Infrastructure (DevOps) will join the infrastructure engineering team, focusing on building, deploying, and monitoring services, databases, and caches. Responsibilities include working with infrastructure tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, and Istio. This role aims to accelerate development through faster and safer deployments, improve developer happiness, and contribute to cost savings. The intern will also contribute directly to the bottom line with cost savings initiatives and optimizations and catch errors and performance issues early with automated monitoring and alerting. The role offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and make a significant impact on the company's infrastructure.
Must have:
- Experience with POSIX-based operating systems
- Familiarity with Docker and its problem-solving capabilities
- Knowledge of networked services in the cloud (VPC, IP, TCP, DNS, HTTP, etc.)
- A desire to automate repetitive manual processes
- Ability to spot and eliminate waste
- Quick learner regardless of technologies used

About the Role
We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineering Intern with 4-16 months of experience to join our infrastructure engineering team. Our team is responsible for the infrastructure around building, deploying, and monitoring our services, databases, and caches.
Challenges you'll solve
- Work with cutting edge infrastructure tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, and Istio
- Accelerate development across the company with faster, safer, and more frequent deploys
- Meaningfully improve developer happiness and productivity across the company with better development tools and workflows
- Contribute directly to the bottom line with cost savings initiatives and optimizations
- Catch errors and performance issues early with automated monitoring and alerting
About you
- You have experience and comfort with POSIX-based operating systems
- You’ve used docker before and understand what it is and what problems it solves
- You have some knowledge of how networked services in the cloud work: VPC, IP, TCP, DNS, HTTP, etc.
- You abhor repetitive manual processes and are excited to automate them away
- You have a sixth sense for spotting waste (in money, time, CPU cycles) and eliminating it
- You learn quickly, regardless of the languages and technologies used

- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Tens of containerized microservices written in Python and/or JS processing a total of 15k+ requests per second
- Kubernetes for deploying services
- Infrastructure as Code in Terraform and Helm
- Datadog and Opsgenie for logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Postgres for storage and Redis for caching
- Gitlab for version control and CI/CD
- Python, Bash, and Docker for local development workflows and CI/CD jobs

$34.50 - $40 an hour
Compensation for this internship will be determined based on the number of prior work terms or internships you have successfully completed, in alignment with our intern pay structure.
