Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager for Android Automotive in Krakow, Poland, you'll lead and develop a team of engineers building platforms and services that bring Google's ecosystem to vehicles. This includes bridging the gap between car sensors and Android Frameworks, creating driver-safe user experiences, and defining the future of Google's AI technologies in automotive. You'll manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and guide the team's technical direction, overseeing all aspects from low-level system architecture and application development to backend systems. Responsibilities include setting team priorities, aligning strategies across teams, providing individual performance feedback and coaching, and designing and vetting systems. You will also review code and ensure adherence to best practices. The role requires extensive experience in Android OS development, software engineering leadership, and team management.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • 3 years of experience with Android OS development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Experience with software development in the automotive industry.
  • Ability to hire and grow high-performing engineers.
  • Ability to influence and drive results.

You will build and manage Engineering teams capable of spanning low-level system architecture, application development, and back-end systems. You will help reimagine the Android operating system, and apps and services for end users.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the mid-term technical direction and roadmap within the scope of the teams. Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
