The Sourcing Project Manager II directs sourcing activities, overseeing negotiations and contracts with legal counsel. They develop and maintain policies to mitigate supplier risk, manage product quoting for fair market costs, and collaborate with other departments. Responsibilities include selecting suppliers, improving costs, conducting market research, coordinating capacity planning, building supplier relationships, creating supply agreements, ensuring quality, and adhering to regulatory requirements. The role requires 20% travel and may involve additional training and certifications.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in sourcing or purchasing.
  • Experience in sourcing reagent/biologic materials preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and negotiate supplier contracts.
Good to have:
  • Supplier auditing experience is preferred.
  • APICS/ISM--CSCP certification is a plus.
  • Presenting skills preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite.

Job Details

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Directs the activities related to the sourcing of assigned categories. Oversees and reviews the negotiations and content of key contracts in conjunction with company legal counsel. Develops, maintains, and improves policies and procedures for mitigating supplier risk and sourcing activities.  Manages and maintains the quoting of all products to ensure the company is receiving fair market cost, quality, and capacity. Works efficiently with other functional departments to ensure communication, collaboration, direction of department objectives, engineering development, service, accounting, and quality activities, functions, and processes are met. Works within the companies’ quality and regulatory procedures and processes.

  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of the organization's Quality System.
  • Accountable for the selection of suppliers, risk mitigation, and cost improvements through adhering to WID controls for purchasing requirements to meet the annual KPI metrics required for this position.
  • Conduct detailed market and supplier research and analysis, data collection, cost modeling, risk mitigation strategies and strategic development to be communicated with Executive Management and internal business partners.
  • Coordinates capacity planning for projects to ensure the supplier is capable of meeting the manufacturing build plan.  Reviews product development capacity planning and forecasts with Director of Purchasing, Reagent before presenting to the management teams.
  • Build supplier relationships through frequent and effective communication of business, quality, delivery, costs, and transportation requirements.
  • Ensures the creation and management of strategic supply agreements, and contracts with key suppliers.
  • Foster quality and delivery in the supply chain through adhering to and executing the supplier program requirements per SOP502.
  • Adhere to all regulatory and quality requirements. Encourage suppliers to be ISO certified and fulfill ISO and FDA requirements with suppliers as required and needed.
  • Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
  • Must be willing to seek other training and certifications at company request.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or related field, with 5+ years of experience required in sourcing or purchasing in a corporate environment (biotech, technical, or medical industry is preferred)
    • High school diploma/GED with 11 years of experience in sourcing or purchasing also accepted
  • Supplier auditing experience is preferred.
  • APICS/ISM--CSCP certification is a plus.
  • Experience in sourcing reagent/biologic materials, packaging and printed materials preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and negotiate supplier contracts and agreements.
  • Presenting skills preferred.
  • Maintaining the highest level of quality, professionalism, and integrity when negotiating with suppliers and interacting with internal business partners.
  • Ability to communicate up and down the organization at all levels and across functional boundaries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite.
