Job Description

As a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Design Engineering (MDE), you will leverage your mechanical manufacturing background to lead process development, new product introduction, and supplier execution. This includes planning and leading experiments, collaborating with engineering teams and suppliers, and using industry-standard tools like DOEs and FMEA to optimize processes and mitigate risks. You will also drive overall operational readiness, assess supplier capabilities, and ensure adherence to Apple standards, quality programs, and manufacturing process control plans. Responsibilities involve collaborating with suppliers and engineering teams to develop manufacturing and test processes, reviewing part design documentation, and establishing validation procedures to ensure high-quality product delivery.

Job Details

You will apply your mechanical manufacturing background in the following areas: Process Development: • Plan, propose and lead experiments to produce timely and accurate analyses used to drive design, development, and supply chain decisions. • Collaborate with Suppliers and Engineering teams in developing the manufacturing and test processes, including process flows, equipment/fixture designs, implementation schedules and validation/maintenance plans. • Use DOEs, FMEA and other Industry-standard tools to actively identify and address risks and optimize process parameters. • Develop robust processes for failure analysis and drive continuous improvement. New Product Introduction: • Lead multi-functional activities in the supply chain for overall operational readiness in all NPI phases leading into Mass Production. • Drive process development and capability assessment activities, reviewing part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability. • Lead project technical and operational issues with respect to material, process, fixtures, equipment etc. during the NPI phase, to enable delivery of a mature product and manufacturing process into Mass Production. • Assign specific tasks and work with Apple suppliers to support process development and/or data gathering activities. Set clear goals for results and provide timely reviews of performance throughout program. • Establish validation procedures to determine acceptance of tooling into development builds as well as mass production. Supplier Execution: • Review supplier equipment and fixture design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals. • Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance. • Work with supplier engineering teams to map out process development exercises, secure resources and commit to schedules in line with program goals. • Assess supplier readiness to support build events and production ramp. Identify potential execution issues and provide recommendations to mitigate risk. • Evaluate prospective suppliers regarding production capability & quality management. • Lead suppliers by providing technical direction to establish and validate (applying statistical tools) process capability to Apple standards in meeting innovative product designs as well as test and quality requirements. • Establish Quality programs and Manufacturing Process Control Plans for early detection of issues, to ensure the highest level of Quality and Reliability is consistently delivered.
