Job Description

This role involves managing, planning, and coordinating project activities to ensure objectives are met within prescribed time and funding parameters. Responsibilities include reviewing project proposals, establishing work plans, managing project personnel, and ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets. The Project Specialist will also prepare reports, provide technical advice, and contribute to human resource and operational objectives. The position requires strong process improvement knowledge, leadership, and experience in design and manufacturing of complex products.
Must have:
  • Review project proposals to determine time frame, funding, procedures, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Establish work plans and multi-disciplinary staffing for each project phase.
  • Confer with project staff to outline work plans, assign duties, and define scope of authority.
  • Manage sub-contractors and their workforce.
  • Direct and coordinate project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
  • Review status reports and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepare project reports for management, clients, or others.
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Accomplish human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Achieve operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews.
  • Meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, and scheduling expenditures.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.

Position Summary:

Manages, plans, and coordinates activities of projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.
  • Establishes work plan and multi-disciplinary staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
  • Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • May manage sub-contractors and their workforce.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
  • Prepares project reports for management, client, or others.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
  • Accomplishes human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieves operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Meets financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required:

  • Strong process improvement knowledge
  • Excellent leadership capabilities
  • Ability to track budget expenses
  • Understanding of performance management and inventory control

Position Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Experience:

7+ years of project management experience, specifically Design and Manufacturing of complex products

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Office Environment

Ability to sit for long periods of time

Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer
