Job Description

As a Sr. Staff Software Engineer at Zscaler, you will develop and manage shared infrastructure automation for US federal, regulated, and sovereign cloud environments. Responsibilities include improving CI/CD system security, automating change management, defining DevOps standards, automating new Zscaler cloud build-outs, and participating in on-call rotation. You'll ensure compliance with federal guidelines and contribute to a highly available engineering platform. This is a remote position.
Must have:
  • 5+ years experience in commercial services development and public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
  • Proficient in IaC tools (Terraform or Ansible) and Go programming
  • Expertise in large-scale distributed systems
  • Develop and manage shared infrastructure automation
  • Improve security of CI/CD systems and automate change management
Good to have:
  • Experience with High/Moderate FedRamp authorization levels (IL5/IL6)
  • Experience in continuous monitoring, vulnerability scanning, patching, and reporting
  • Experience with multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure) and various databases

We’re looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role is a remote position. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering, you will:

  • Develop and manage shared infrastructure automation for US federal, regulated, and sovereign cloud environments.
  • Improve security of CI/CD systems and automate change management processes.
  • Define and enforce DevOps standards, best practices, and procedures across the engineering team.
  • Automate the build-out of new Zscaler clouds and create delivery mechanisms for operational collateral.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support a highly available engineering platform and ensure compliance with federal guidelines.
What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial services development and working with public cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Proficient in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Ansible and skilled in programming languages such as Go.
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and resolving issues in large-scale distributed systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, IT, or an equivalent field.
What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with High/Moderate FedRamp authorization levels (IL5/IL6 is a plus).
  • Experience in continuous monitoring, vulnerability scanning, patching, and reporting.
  • Experience with multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure) and both relational and non-relational databases for microservices.

Zscaler’s salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.

Base Pay Range
$147,000$210,000 USD
