The Senior Systems Network Engineer configures, implements, and supports all aspects of the network environment for new Disney Cruise Line ships. Responsibilities include resolving operational issues, configuring and testing integrated systems, troubleshooting outages, and overseeing project implementation for wired and wireless networks. This role requires on-site work in Papenburg, Germany, ensuring maximum network availability. The engineer will provide technical expertise to mid-level engineers, set technical standards, implement process improvements, maintain QoS profiles, perform hardware/firmware upgrades, and support daily network operations. They will also deploy network security, adhering to DTSS standards, and provide 24/7 support.
Must have:
  • 5+ years network engineering experience
  • Network topology, design, infrastructure expertise
  • Experience with switches, routers, firewalls
  • Enterprise-level wireless networking experience
  • Network troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced network certifications or equivalent experience
Good to have:
  • Cisco Systems expertise (routing, switching, UCS, ISE)
  • VMware AVI Advanced Load Balancing
  • Palo Alto firewalls experience
  • QoS, Multicasting, network segmentation experience
  • Cisco ISE based wired/wireless 802.1x security
  • VMware vSphere and virtualized infrastructure experience

Job Details

Job Summary:

The Senior Systems Network Engineer configures, implements and supports all aspects of the network environment for the new Disney Cruise line ships. They provide technical expertise in resolving operational issues, configuration and testing of integrated systems and take point in troubleshooting outages. The Senior Systems Network Engineer oversees project implementation for the wired and wireless network for Disney Cruise Line and all systems the ships interact with, including the preproduction facility and site offices. The Senior Network Systems Engineer conducts their project and operational work in a manner that will ensure maximum availability of network systems, working in collaboration with the DCL network team. 

This role will require you to be on-site in Papenburg, Germany.

What You Will Do:

  • Provides technical expertise and assistance to mid-level network engineers.

  • Assists in problem analysis and issue resolution, serving as an escalation point for complex problems. 

  • Sets and maintains technical standards for best practices.

  • Implements improvements to processes and technology that enhance the effectiveness of the team and the onboard network infrastructure.

  • Maintains and deploys comprehensive Quality of Service profiles across media dense merged networks.

  • Coordinates and performs preventative network firmware and hardware upgrades/maintenance while providing maximum availability.

  • Provides day-to-day support for wired and wireless network operations.

  • Executes specifications for provisioning network equipment that adhere to the technology refresh cycle and maintains technical currency.

  • Deploys network systems security and ensures all DTSS security standards are implemented and maintained.

  • Responds to operational alerts for configuration and maintenance of circuits and cross connections between DCL assets and third-party providers.

  • Performs advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution.

  • Ensures 24x7 operational support and maintenance onboard.

  • Responsible for troubleshooting of switches, routers, content switching equipment and security network devices including firewalls.

  • Maintains configuration standards for network devices that adhere to corporate policy.

  • Provides technical guidance and project subject matter expertise to colleagues and customers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of network engineering experience in a work environment.

  • Experience with network topography, design and infrastructure.

  • Experience with networking equipment including switches, routers, firewalls and network management tools.

  • Experience with enterprise level wireless networking.

  • Experience with network troubleshooting processes and tools.

  • Advanced level, relevant technical network certification or related work experience with enterprise level networking hardware and systems.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certification and/or extensive experience in Cisco Systems (routing, switching, UCS, ISE) , VMWare AVI Advanced Load Balancing, Palo Alto firewalls.

  • Experience with Quality of Service, Multicasting, network segmentation.

  • Deployment and support experience with Cisco ISE Based wired/wireless 802.1x security.

  • Experience with VMware vSphere and virtualized infrastructure.

Education:

  • Four-year degree in field such as Computer Science or Information Technology or similar field or related work experience.
