Job Description
As a Staff Data Scientist at Google Photos, you'll be at the heart of product improvements, collaborating with engineers and product managers. You'll leverage your analytical skills to solve complex business problems, develop insightful solutions, and drive product decisions. Responsibilities include performing analysis using SQL, R, and Python; developing investigative solutions; managing cross-functional projects; and mentoring colleagues. You'll work on the engagement side of the business, focusing on user retention and satisfaction. This role requires strong statistical modeling, experimentation, and causal inference skills to improve the Google Photos product and user experience for over a billion users worldwide.
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative field
- 8+ years experience (10 without Masters)
- Proficient in Python, R, SQL
- Statistical analysis & modeling

Job Details

You will develop an understanding of the Google Photos product, data and users. You will take vague and business problems and hypotheses and come up with investigative solutions that improve our product and user experience. You will be on the Engagement side of our business, making sure that users are enjoying features enough to be retained long into the future.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Perform analysis utilizing related tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python). Provide investigative thought leadership through contributions (e.g., suggests new analysis, infrastructure or experiments to drive improvements in the business).
- Own outcomes for projects by covering problem definition, metrics development, data extraction and manipulation, visualization, creation, and implementation of investigative or statistical models, and presentation to stakeholders.
- Develop solutions, lead and manage problems that may be lacking precedent by framing problems, generating hypotheses, and making recommendations from a perspective that combines both, problem solving and product-specific expertise.
- Oversee the integration of cross-functional and cross-organizational project/process timelines, develop process improvements, recommendations, and help define operational goals and objectives.
- Oversee the contributions of others and develop colleague's capabilities in the area of specialization.
