Job Description

As a Staff Network Engineer at Zscaler, you'll be part of a remote team based in the Netherlands, responsible for deploying, operating, monitoring, and supporting the global production network within multiple data centers. You'll work with high-speed fiber Ethernet networks, BGP routing (IPv4 and IPv6), DNS, HTTPS, GRE, and IPsec protocols. Troubleshooting L2 and L3 Ethernet networks, understanding TCP/IP performance, and using packet analysis tools like Wireshark are key responsibilities. This role involves on-call rotation and requires expertise in large-scale enterprise or telecom data center networks. You'll contribute to maintaining the performance and stability of a cloud processing tens of billions of transactions daily.
Must have:
  • 5-8 years high-speed fiber Ethernet network experience
  • Expert BGP routing (IPv4/IPv6) operation, design, troubleshooting
  • Deep knowledge of DNS, HTTPS, GRE, IPsec, and troubleshooting experience
  • Real-life L2/L3 Ethernet network troubleshooting experience
  • In-depth understanding of networking concepts and IP packet analysis
Good to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Remote data center operations experience
  • Deep Unix/Linux/FreeBSD knowledge and network equipment expertise
  • Unix shell scripting, Python or Perl
  • CCIE/JNCIP certifications

The Cloud Ops team is responsible for keeping the engines running at peak performance. On any given day, the Zscaler cloud processes tens of billions of transactions — scanning a petabyte of data — for 15 million users around the world. The transaction volume on the Zscaler cloud is significantly growing every quarter, yet the cloud’s overall stability just continues to improve, and that is directly attributable to the Cloud Ops team’s deep expertise and its dedication to reliability, availability, and scalability. As a Staff Network Engineer you will be part of a remote team, and can be based anywhere within Netherlands. You will report to the EMEA Manager, Network Engineering and have the following responsibilities: 

  • You will be a member of Zscaler’ s global network engineering team and will be responsible for deploying, operating, monitoring, and supporting the Zscaler worldwide production network inside multiple data centers.
  • The ideal candidate has a proven track record of operating enterprise or telecom data center networks, and is a creative thinker, self-starter, problem solver, learner, and is motivated by engineering excellence.
  • This position will have to participate in on-call rotation in weekends and holidays.

What We Are Looking For (Minimum Qualifications):

  • 5-8 years of experience with high-speed fiber Ethernet networks.
  • Expert level hands-on experience in BGP routing operation, design, and troubleshooting in both IPv4 and IPv6 for large scale Enterprise or Telecom networks.
  • Deep knowledge of DNS, HTTPS, GRE, and IPsec protocols with hands-on troubleshooting experience
  • Real life experience troubleshooting L2 and L3 Ethernet networks.
  • In-depth understanding of networking concepts including performance parameters of TCP/IP stack and hands-on experience of IP-packet analysis using Wireshark.

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in remote Data Centre operations.
  • Deep knowledge on Unix/Linux/FreeBSD, and Network equipment and the functions they perform.
  • Familiarity with Unix Shell scripts. Python or Perl
  • CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure / Service Provider, JNCIP-ENT / JNCIP-SP or related certifications
