As a Staff Software Engineer on the PlayStation Client Developer Experience Team, you'll architect, design, and implement cloud-based solutions (performance profilers, UI inspection tools, etc.) to enhance developer productivity. You'll influence client framework architecture, collaborate across teams, mentor engineers, and ensure seamless integration across platforms. Responsibilities include developing tools that improve workflows, optimizing performance, and staying updated on industry trends. The role requires strong expertise in Javascript, React, React Native, Python, C++, cloud platforms (AWS), and microservices.
Must have:
  • 10+ years software development experience
  • Proficiency in Javascript, React, Python, C++

  • Microservices architecture knowledge
  • Mentoring and leadership skills

About the Role

Join the PlayStation Client Developer Experience Team as a Staff Software Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the tools and frameworks that empower our client-side developers. Lead the creation of innovative, cloud-based solutions—such as performance profilers, UI inspection tools, target control systems, and developer setup assistants that streamline workflows and dramatically reduce onboarding time.

Your influence will extend beyond tooling as you help define the future of PlayStation's client frameworks. Tackle complex challenges at scale, blending your expertise in client-side development with backend cloud technologies to drive groundbreaking solutions. Collaborate with a talented and supportive team to advance PlayStation's Developer Experience and contribute to the evolution of our core client frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement complex software systems to deliver high-quality, maintainable, and scalable solutions enhancing developer productivity.
  • Develop cloud-based tools that significantly improve developer workflows, including performance profilers and setup assistants reducing onboarding time from hours to minutes.
  • Influence the architecture and performance of client applications, shaping the future direction of PlayStation's client frameworks.
  • Work closely with teams from various functions to define project requirements and ensure seamless integration across platforms.
  • Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of inclusion, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
  • Undertake thorough code reviews to maintain coding standards and guarantee the development of superior software.
  • Identify and implement performance optimizations to keep our software innovative and efficient.
  • Solve complex and ambiguous challenges with creative and critical thinking to deliver outstanding solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and new technologies, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and maintain PlayStation's competitive edge.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience with a proven track record of leading and delivering complex projects.
  • Exceptional proficiency in programming languages such as Javascript, React, React Native, Python, C++ and experience with modern development frameworks and tools.
  • Solid understanding of both client-side and backend development, including experience with cloud platforms like AWS, microservices architecture, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence architectural decisions, mentor team members, and drive innovation in developer experience tools and client-side frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to approach complex challenges creatively and analytically.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, effectively working in diverse teams with multiple functions.
  • Adaptable and curious, with a passion for embracing new challenges and technologies in developer experience and client frameworks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Genuine passion for gaming and a deep understanding of the gaming industry is highly desirable.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$209,900 - $314,900 USD
