Job Description

Google is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with expertise in Generative AI to join their Search team. This role involves technical leadership on high-impact projects, influencing and coaching a distributed engineering team, and managing project priorities and deadlines. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing large-scale software solutions related to generative AI, including large language models and multi-modal AI. The ideal candidate possesses significant experience in software development, testing, and launching software products, along with a strong background in machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow). Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization is preferred. The role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on billions of users globally.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
5+ years testing and launching products
3+ years software design and architecture
Generative AI experience (LLMs, Multi-modal)
ML algorithms and tools (TensorFlow)
Technical leadership

Master's/PhD in related field

Experience in complex, matrixed organization

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Experience in Generative AI (Large Language Models, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models).
Experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing or other ML discipline.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
