DNEG seeks a Stereo Paint Artist for a 3-month contract starting in March. Responsibilities include adjusting and cleaning visual elements in 3D conversion, ensuring high-quality results for ambitious projects. Proficiency in Silhouette (frame-by-frame painting, edge cleaning), Nuke (tracking, projection, color correction), and understanding of stereo paint specifics are crucial. Experience in VFX prep is a plus. The role demands precision, attention to detail, and collaboration with team leads and other departments.

DNEG est un leader mondial des effets visuels et de l'animation. En tant que Stereo Paint Artist, vous serez un membre essentiel de notre équipe Stereo, responsable de l’ajustement et du nettoyage des éléments visuels dans le cadre de la conversion 3D, pour fournir des résultats de haute qualité aux projets les plus ambitieux. Une expérience en VFX Prep serait un excellent atout.
 
Compétences Techniques
 
Peinture image par image dans Silhouette :

Maîtrise du nettoyage des contours des personnages ou des objets dans un plan, avec une grande attention aux détails, jusqu'à un raffinement de 40 à 50 pixels. Capacité à gérer des plans complexes avec précision.
 
Dégrainage et régrainage :

Capacité à supprimer le grain ou le bruit indésirable d'une séquence tout en préservant sa texture naturelle, puis à le réappliquer de manière cohérente avec le reste du plan.
 
Tracking 2D et 3D dans Nuke :

Expertise dans le suivi des éléments 2D et 3D dans Nuke, capable de gérer des tâches complexes de tracking de manière autonome, sans dépendre d’autres départements.
Bonne maîtrise de la projection de clean plates en utilisant les données de tracking.
 
DMP (Digital Matte Painting) :

Expérience dans la création de matte paintings numériques s'intégrant parfaitement à des séquences live-action, avec un accent sur la projection et la peinture de textures.
 
Patch Shifting et Gripwarp :

Compétence dans l'utilisation de patch shifting et gripwarp pour effectuer des ajustements subtils aux séquences et corriger des problèmes sans introduire d'artefacts visibles.
 
Correction colorimétrique :

Excellente compréhension des principes et techniques de correction colorimétrique, en particulier pour gérer des problèmes tels que le flou ou le défocus dans les plans.
Expérience dans l’harmonisation de l’éclairage et des ombres entre différents éléments d’un plan.
 
Connaissances de base en roto :

Bonne compréhension des principes du rotoscoping et capacité à appliquer ces techniques pour diverses exigences de plans, y compris la séparation des éléments pour le compositing.

Connaissance des Logiciels
 
Nuke :

Maîtrise de tous les aspects de Nuke, y compris le compositing nodal, le tracking avancé 2D/3D, la projection et la correction colorimétrique. Capacité à exploiter les fonctionnalités avancées de Nuke pour optimiser les workflows.
 
Silhouette :

Solide connaissance des outils de Silhouette pour la peinture, le roto et le tracking. Capable de créer des mattes complexes et d’effectuer des retouches précises sur des éléments détaillés.

Aptitude à analyser son propre travail de manière critique afin d’assurer un haut niveau de qualité avant soumission pour validation. Engagement envers l’amélioration continue et l'affinement des techniques.

Spécificités de la Peinture Stéréo
 
Compréhension des exigences spécifiques à la peinture stéréo :

Capacité à reconnaître les particularités du paint en stéréoscopie, notamment en maintenant une cohérence de la profondeur 3D et de la qualité visuelle lors du nettoyage des contours des éléments stéréo.
 
Adaptabilité :

Souplesse et capacité d’adaptation face aux défis spécifiques du paint en stéréo, y compris l'ajustement des workflows pour assurer une projection précise des clean plates et un alignement stéréo optimal.
 
Veuillez noter qu’il s’agit d’un poste syndiqué qui sera couvert par une convention collective entre DNEG et l’IATSE dans les mois à venir. En tant qu’employé syndiqué, vous devrez adhérer au syndicat et bénéficierez des conditions établies dans la convention collective. Des cotisations syndicales seront exigées une fois la convention collective en place.

As a Stereo Paint Artist, you will be an essential member of our Stereo team, responsible for adjusting and cleaning visual elements as part of the 3D conversion process, delivering high-quality results for the most ambitious projects. Experience in VFX Prep would be a great asset.
Technical Skills

Frame-by-Frame Paint in Silhouette:

Proficient in cleaning edges of characters or objects in a shot, with attention to detail in refining up to 40-50 pixels. Able to tackle even complex shots with precision.

Degrain and Regrain:

Ability to remove unwanted grain or noise from footage while maintaining the natural texture, and reapply it in a way that aligns with the rest of the shot.

2D and 3D Tracking in Nuke:

Expert in tracking both 2D and 3D elements in Nuke, able to handle complex tracking tasks independently without reliance on other departments.
Knowledge of how to project clean plates using tracking data.

DMP (Digital Matte Painting):

Experience in creating digital matte paintings that integrate seamlessly into live-action footage, with a focus on projections and texture painting.

Patch Shifting and Gripwarp:

Skilled in using patch shifting and gripwarp to make subtle adjustments to footage and correct issues without introducing visible artifacts.

Colour Correction:

Deep understanding of color correction principles and techniques, especially for handling issues like defocus or blur in shots.
Experience with matching lighting and shadows across different elements of a shot.

Basic Understanding of Roto:

Solid foundation in rotoscoping principles, and able to use these techniques to support various shot requirements, including separation of elements for compositing.

Software Knowledge

Nuke:

Proficient in all aspects of Nuke, including node-based compositing, advanced 2D/3D tracking, projection, and color correction. Able to leverage Nuke's advanced features for efficient workflows.

Silhouette:

Strong knowledge of Silhouette's suite of tools for painting, roto, and tracking. Capable of creating complex mattes and cleaning up detailed elements with precision.

Soft Skills

Team Collaboration:

Effective in collaborating with Team Leads and other departments to prioritize tasks, ensure proper communication, and maintain productivity for timely delivery.

Self-Evaluation:

Ability to assess one’s own work critically, ensuring high standards of quality before submitting for review. Dedicated to continuous improvement and refining techniques.

Stereo Paint Specifics

Understanding of Stereo Paint Differences:

Recognizes the unique demands of stereo paint, especially when cleaning edges of stereo elements to maintain consistent 3D depth and quality in shots.

Adaptability:

Open and adaptable to the specific challenges posed by stereo paint, including adjusting workflows to track and project clean plates with accuracy, ensuring stereo alignment.
 
 
Please note that this is a unionized position and will be covered by a collective agreement between DNEG and IATSE, in the coming months. As a unionized employee, you will be required to join the union and will benefit from the conditions set out in the collective agreement. Union dues will be required once the collective agreement is in place.
