Job Description

Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team seeks a Supplier Industrialization Engineer specializing in aluminum and non-ferrous metals for its Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg. Responsibilities include leading supplier industrialization activities from R&D to mass production, encompassing product development, qualification, quality control, and new product introduction. The role involves scouting for quality and cost optimization, facilitating communication between internal and external teams, conducting supplier audits, driving process development, validating corrective actions, and managing the global supply chain for technical and cost improvements. Significant travel (50%) is required for engagement with suppliers. The ideal candidate will have expertise in automotive metal stamping, body panel production, GD&T, metals processing, and supplier development.

What to Expect

Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This position involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. Tesla is a fast moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success. A successful candidate will be a self-starter, motivated and quick learner. This role specifically narrows in on the technical evaluation of aluminum and non-ferrous materials used to create parts across automotive and energy products. 

What You’ll Do
  • Lead Supplier Industrialization activities from R&D phase to mass production including product development, qualification, quality control and initiate New Product Introduction.
  • Scout Innovation for Quality and Cost optimization from the supply base and support Design for Manufacturing feedback into Engineering teams. 
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering teams. 
  • Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet material performance, delivery, and reliability expectations. 
  • Drive tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes. 
  • Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers. 
  • Project manage the supply chain scope at a global level driving steps forward and continuous improvement on the technical and cost reduction level.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree Metallurgy/Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or evidence of experience and exceptional ability
  • Automotive metal stamping and production of body panels experience
  • Understanding of cross functional components throughout the automotive and energy products
  • GD&T knowledge, ability to perform stack up tolerance analysis
  • Knowledge of metals processing or fabrication (steelmaking & smelting), forging or forming experience (stamping & rolling)
  • Familiarity metal phases, corrosion and weldability
  • Proven know how supplier development and management experience
  • Experience of statistical tolerance analysis, design quality assessment, and improvement technique
  • Hands on and ready to work on a fast paced environment
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Domestic and international travel (expected 50% of the time) is required to engage with CMs, sometimes on short notice
