Systems and Networking Research Intern, Summer 2025

To steward that responsibility, we work collaboratively with ISPs to deploy , Netflix’s Content Delivery Network (CDN), which delivers 100% of Netflix's video traffic.  Our team’s mission is to support that delivery by ensuring the smooth coordination and operation of the Open Connect Appliances (OCAs) deployed by the thousands around the world, to provide a fantastic viewing experience for all Netflix members.

As a Systems and Networking Research intern, you will have the opportunity to conduct networking research in the context of this global CDN, exploring opportunities for performance, resilience, and reliability optimizations. This includes further the understanding of how the infrastructure interacts with the Internet and how clients are able to effectively connect to the CDN.

About You:

• Enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or related field with focuses on networking, Internet Measurement, or Internet distributed systems.

• A burning desire to solve real-world problems at scale.

• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, BGP)

• Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills with knowledge of statistical methods.

• Excellent software development skills, comfortable with software engineering best practices (e.g. version control, testing, code review, etc.).

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Bonus Points:

• Familiarity with CDN and content delivery architectures.

• Experience working with cross-functional teams.

• Experience with cloud computing platforms and large web-scale distributed systems.

• Open source contributions.

• Research publications at peer reviewed journals and conferences on relevant topics.

Internships are paid and are a minimum of 12 weeks, with a choice of a few fixed start dates in May or June 2025 to accommodate varying school calendars. Conditions permitting, our 2025 summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the team.

These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.

The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour - $110/hour.
