Zoox is seeking a Systems Engineer for Vehicle Controls Functional Safety to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution. You will work with System Safety, Hardware, and Software Development Teams to design, develop, and deploy autonomous driving systems. Your responsibilities include ensuring systems are developed with end-to-end traceability, achieving safety targets and product requirements, performing quantitative and qualitative functional safety analyses (HARAs, FTAs, FMEAs, FMEDAs), developing functional and technical safety concepts for vehicle motion control, collaborating with internal and external teams to meet requirements, and supporting test plan development and issue resolution.
Must have:
  • B.S. or higher in relevant engineering field
  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience
  • At least 3 years in System Safety/Systems Engineering
  • Experience with vehicle motion control
  • Experience with hazard analysis and ISO26262
  • Strong communication skills

Job Details

Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities and safely deploy such a robotaxi solution. Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team is responsible for constructing the safety case for each milestone. We play a foundational role in the success of the company. 

As a Systems Engineer at Zoox, you will be working with members of the System Safety, Hardware, and Software Development Teams to design, develop, and deploy systems that enable and support autonomous driving. You are responsible for ensuring these systems are developed within a process that results in end-to-end traceability and achievement of both system safety targets and product requirements.

In this role, you will:

    • Develop quantitative and qualitative functional safety analyses including HARAs, FTAs, FMEAs, and/or FMEDAs
    • Develop functional safety and technical safety concepts for vehicle motion control systems
    • Collaborate with internal hardware/software engineers and/or 3rd party suppliers to ensure system requirements and desired functionality are achieved
    • Assist other teams with the implementation of systems engineering processes, which can also include cross-functional reviews of requirements and test cases
    • Support development of test plans, test cases, black box integration testing, and issue resolution.

Qualifications

    • B.S. or higher degree in Automotive Engineering, Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
    • Minimum of five years of total engineering experience with at least three years in the fields of System Safety and/or Systems Engineering
    • Experience with vehicle motion control, embedded microcontrollers, automotive networks, sensors and actuators
    • Experience with hazard analysis, functional decomposition and developing safety requirements in line with ISO26262 recommendations
    • Experience developing system architecture diagrams and safety concepts dealing with complex system interactions
    • Collaborative team player with strong written and in-person communication skills

Bonus Qualifications

    • ISO 26262 Certification 
    • Experience with a requirements management tool (ex: Polarion)
    • Familiarity with probability and statistical analysis
    • Analytical skills and experience with programming languages such as C++ or Python
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $176,000 to $230,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
