Job Details

Role Profile

The role is based in [Colombo (Sri Lanka) or Bangalore (India)] and reports to the Director, APAC Tax and Global Tax Controversy Leader in London. The position will have overall direct tax responsibility for a portfolio of the group’s entities in the APAC region, delivering corporate tax compliance, corporate tax advisory, leading on tax audits and litigation, local tax reporting, supporting the global tax reporting process in addition to supporting on strategic projects and initiatives relating to APAC. The individual will work closely with outsource providers, the financial controller community, the business, and the wider tax team on delivering the goals of the tax function. Key Responsibilities

 The selected candidate will have ownership for:

  • Fully managing the direct tax compliance for assigned jurisdictions with respect to:
    • Tax provisions (Group and statutory)
    • Tax returns
    • Tax payments

These services are also supported by outsource providers, so the role will involve working with several teams to ensure that the various deadlines are met.

  • Leading on tax audits and litigation from start to end for assigned jurisdictions, supported by external advisors to:
    • Respond to tax authority queries and appeal submission deadlines in a timely manner
    • Discuss tax affairs of the assigned entities with the tax authorities
  • Providing tax advisory services on ad-hoc tax related business queries and contributing to strategic projects and initiatives for assigned jurisdictions including:
    • Acting as the main point of contact for local business partners on tax matters
    • Support for analyses and documentation of material tax positions for inclusion within Group and local entity tax computations and financial statements
  • Supporting the global tax reporting team with internal tax reporting requirements including effective tax rate determinations, cash tax forecasts and group tax provisions by coordinating and consolidating financial data from controllers and outsourced tax service providers
  • Supporting internal WHT processes with respect to obtaining applicable treaty rates on customer payments, as well as monitoring the WHT certification received for credit relief
  • Supporting local entity compliance with Group transfer pricing policies and procedures
  • Opportunities to lead on strategic projects as they arise

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant and/or certified tax agent or equivalent qualifications
  • At least 7 years of experience in a Big 4 corporate direct tax consulting capacity
  • Tax experience in a multinational corporate tax environment would be highly regarded
  • A high degree of organization and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting frameworks and understanding of accounting systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and desire to communicate, collaborate and co-ordinate with finance and non-finance colleagues
