As a Technical Artist at Digital Extremes, you'll blend art and technology to create Soulframe's game world. Collaborate with a talented team to optimize art assets for visual appeal and performance. Responsibilities include modifying art assets for technical viability, reviewing import settings, evaluating rendering performance, and working with the Art Director to execute the game's visual design. You'll contribute innovative ideas, deliver work on schedule, participate in feedback loops, coordinate marketing asset creation, mentor junior artists, and build/maintain efficient art pipelines. Requires 5+ years of experience in the video game industry, proficiency in modeling programs (Max, ZBrush, Photoshop), Substance Suite, Houdini, and Lua scripting. Experience with other scripting languages (MEL, Python) and programming languages (HLSL, C#, C++) is a plus.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Are you passionate about combining art and technology to bring game worlds to life? As a Technical Artist on Soulframe, you’ll work closely with a talented team to ensure art assets are both visually stunning and technically optimized. This role offers the chance to contribute to a unique project, building efficient pipelines and solving creative challenges to help shape the look and feel of Soulframe.
We are looking for a motivated, skilled, and driven Technical Artist who is excited by tough artistic and technical problems and strives to find a solution. You are the right candidate if you like to solve these types of problems and are excited to share the solution with the team. You should possess modeling and texturing skills, have experience in Houdini, know max, mel, lua, python or other scripting languages with bonus marks given for knowing HLSL, C#, C++ or other programming languages.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize traditional art training and knowledge of programming languages and 3D graphics packages such as 3D Studio Max and Maya to modify art assets for technical viability and performance within game engines and/or software code.
    Review import settings and technical requirements to ensure proper implementation and efficiency of 3D models and other art assets.
  • Evaluate and monitor art asset rendering and modify models to enhance technical performance.
  • Work closely with the Art Director and Lead Artist to understand the creative direction as well as ensure the successful execution of the game’s visual design
  • Contribute innovative and original ideas toward all art aspects of the game’s production and development
  • Deliver work on time and according to schedule as prepared by the Art Director
  • Actively participate in the feedback loop including accepting feedback from and providing feedback within the art team as required staying current on the scope and understanding of the project
  • Coordinate with Production and the team on the generation and supply of marketing assets as defined by the schedule
  • Multitask effectively, prioritize competing demands, and following through on details
  • Support and mentor other artists who are less experienced and require more direction
  • Build and maintain the art pipeline (DCC through to in engine implementation) to allow the art team to create content quickly and efficiently
  • Other responsibilities as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS.

  • 5+ years’ previous experience in the video game industry
  • University degree in visual arts with specialization in graphic design, commercial art, graphic communications or cartooning OR completion of a college diploma program in graphic arts
  • Experience with modeling programs like Max, ZBrush and Photoshop.
  • Experience with the Substance suite
  • Experience with Houdini
  • Experience with Lua (our engine scripting language) would be beneficial
  • Good ability to apply the principles of art and design
  • Pipeline building using tools like Houdini and Designer to automate chunks of work
  • Possess exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for DE games
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your craft applied to the high sci-fi settings we create
