Job Description

Nin-Ja is seeking a Technical Artist to refine graphics and animation from both artistic and technical perspectives. The ideal candidate is a 3D art technical expert responsible for development from concept to final touch. This role ensures technology, tools, and processes support the artistic vision, bridging communication between creative and technical teams. Responsibilities include simplifying production through automation, developing solutions and tools, promoting resource reuse, ensuring technical expertise within the team, staying updated with technology, establishing communication between teams, finding innovative solutions for technical optimization, and understanding rendering steps and performance impact.
Must have:
  • 3-5+ years of technical art, game tools, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with Unreal Engine
  • Experience with Blueprint creation
  • Good understanding of scripting and programming (Python, C++, Mel, HLSL)
  • Technical knowledge of real-time 3D graphics and DCC techniques
  • Knowledge of pre-calculated and real-time lighting
  • Experience creating and deploying production/automation processes
  • Experience with commercial 3D tools (Maya, Houdini, Substance)
  • Portfolio conveying artistic expression and technical skills
  • English speaking and writing skills
Good to have:
  • Experience in the video game or animation industry
  • Mocap knowledge/experience
  • Experience creating scripts and tools in MEL/Python/JavaScript
  • Knowledge of shader development and rendering
  • Desire to continuously improve and expand knowledge
  • Japanese language knowledge

Come join Nin-Ja as a Technical Artist!

 

You will join our team to refine the graphics and animation from an artistic as well as technical perspective.

The ideal candidate for this Tech-Art position is essentially a 3D art technical wizard who will be tasked the development from concept design to the very final touch. 

 

The Technical Artist is essential to ensure that the technology, tools and processes are in place to realize the artistic vision of a project. He or she works with the creative team to explain the capabilities and limitations of the technology, as well as with the technical team to highlight the artists' needs and find multiple solutions to technological problems.

 

Skills & Requirements

  • Highly-motivated, driven, organized, energetic, and passionate for games
  • 3 to 5+ years of technical art, game tools or equivalent experience, ideally having shipped one or more AAA titles
  • A minimum of four (4) years' experience with Unreal;
  • Experience with Blueprint creation and a good understanding of scripting and programming (Python, C++, Mel, HLSL an asset);
  • A degree or relevant professional experience in the video game industry as a technical artist or in a similar or related position;
  • Technical knowledge of real-time 3D graphics and digital content creation techniques;
  • Knowledge of pre-calculated and real-time lighting;
  • Experience in creating and deploying production and automation processes;
  • Experience with commercial 3D tools (Maya, Houdini, Substance);
  • Experience in the video game or animation industry an asset;
  • Mocap knowledge/experience an asset.
  • Portfolio conveying artistic expression and technical skills
  • English speaking and writing skills 

 

+Pluses

  • Experience in creating scripts and tools in MEL / Python / JavaScript, etc.
  • Knowledge of shader development and rendering appropriate to the specifics of the platform
  • Desire to continuously improve and expand your knowledge in a wide range of technologies and fields
  • Japanese language knowledge

 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a resource person for team members to determine the technical impact of the artistic vision;
  • Simplify production by finding ways to automate tasks and improve processes;
  • Develop a set of best practices, solutions and tools to solve problems;

  • Ensure that the team has the technical expertise to carry out the work required in the project;
  • Keep up to date and constantly seek to push back the limits of technology;
  • Establish strong communication between creative and technical teams;
  • Find innovative solutions and demonstrate expertise in technical optimization to produce the best possible visual results within the limits of technological equipment;
  • Understand rendering steps and methods to assess impact on performance.
