The Technical Artist role involves integrating SpeedTree assets into game engines, setting up shaders for foliage and wind effects, configuring LODs and lightmaps, optimizing geometry and materials, and automating asset import processes to ensure technical consistency and visual quality.
Must have:
  • Proficiency with SpeedTree and game engine integration
  • Understanding of foliage optimization (LODs, billboards)
  • Experience setting up wind animation and lightmaps
  • Strong knowledge of shader systems
  • Ability to follow concept art accurately
  • Adaptability to new game engines and pipelines

About Our Team
Volmi - A Virtuos Studio is an outsourcing company that specializes in game development and game content creation. Over the past 9 years, we have successfully completed over a thousand different projects and have gained considerable experience in creating 2D and 3D art, as well as developing turnkey games. Since 2022, we have been a part of Virtuos, the world's leading game developer, and have become the first Virtuos studio in Eastern Europe.
In particular, we have contributed to the development of popular games such as Diablo 2: Resurrected, Metro Exodus, Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, Smite, Paladins, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and Marvel Snap. Therefore our team creates high-end gaming content and games for various Mobile, PC, Console, and VR projects.
  • Integrate SpeedTree assets into the game engine while ensuring optimal performance.
  • Set up shaders for foliage, bark, wind effects, and seasonal changes.
  • Configure LODs, billboards, and lightmap settings for real-time rendering.
  • Optimize geometry and materials for performance across platforms (PC, consoles).
  • Automate import and update processes for SpeedTree assets within the pipeline.
  • Ensure technical consistency and visual quality according to platform requirements.
  • Integrate 3D assets into the engine and configure materials.
  • Adjust LODs and fix visual bugs related to foliage content.
  • Provide technical support to the art team for foliage-related assets.
  • Collaborate closely with development and art teams to ensure cohesive implementation.
  • Proficiency with SpeedTree and its integration into a game engine (e.g., Unreal, Unity, proprietary engines).
  • Solid understanding of foliage optimization, including LODs, billboards, and performance-friendly shaders.
  • Experience in setting up wind animation, lightmap-ready assets, and pivot/anchor logic.
  • Strong knowledge of shader systems.
  • Ability to follow concept art and style guides with a high level of accuracy.
  • Quick adaptability to unfamiliar game engines and technical pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Capability to digest feedback, identify key points, and implement changes effectively..
  • Open-mindedness and a willingness to learn new tools and workflows.
  • At least В1 English level – capable of effective verbal and written communication in multicultural teams.

Will be a plus:

  • Previous experience in a game production environment using SpeedTree.
  • Familiarity with procedural vegetation workflows.
  • Understanding of real-time rendering constraints on multiple platforms (PC, consoles).
  • Basic scripting knowledge for tools and automation (e.g., Python, C#, or Blueprints).
  • Ability to create and fine-tune vegetation based on biome/species references.
