Job description

RocketWerkz is an ambitious video games studio based on Auckland’s waterfront in New Zealand. Founded by Dean Hall, creator of hit survival game DayZ, we are independently-run but have the backing of one of the world's largest games companies. Our two major games currently out on Steam are Icarus and Stationeers, with other projects in development.

Help us build the foundations of a fantasy world. We're looking for an experienced technical expert for the visual pipeline - someone who can help a team to make their graphics shine in Unreal Engine 4.27.

In this role you will be expected to:
  • Create materials and write shaders that bring our game world to life and get the most out of UE4
  • Create VFX for various particle systems and other visual effects using Niagara and other methods.
  • Work with other artists to optimize their assets to work well and look great within Unreal Engine 4 and our technical specs
  • Work with our tools developer to create and test tools to improve the content creation pipeline
  • Work closely with the core programming and tools team

Job requirements

What we look for in our ideal candidate:

  • At least 3 years of industry experience
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience
  • Understanding of the PBR pipeline rendering system
  • Excellent problem-solving skills working with both programmers and artists
  • Comfortable working within technical constraints
  • Fluent knowledge of 3D modelling, texturing and animation software and pipelines

As a bonus we also look for:

  • A published game made with Unreal Engine 4

The position is full-time, permanent and based in beautiful Auckland, New Zealand. We have a no crunch culture, generous leave policies, amazing office views and flexible working. Assistance is provided for relocation & support for obtaining a visa.

We highly value diversity. Regardless of disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or any other aspect of your culture or identity, you have an important role to play in our team.
