Job Description

As a Technical Dialogue Designer at Atomic Arcade, you'll bridge narrative design and game systems, ensuring immersive, functional dialogue seamlessly integrated into gameplay. You will collaborate with various teams (creative director, dialogue lead, gameplay designers, writers, programmers) to develop and implement dialogue systems using Unreal blueprints, native code, and Wwise. Responsibilities include scripting, integration, and testing dialogue content, refining system functionality, building supporting tools and workflows, and providing input on player experience improvements. You'll be crucial in delivering high-quality interactive storytelling for their AAA G.I. Joe game.
Must have:
  • Proven dialogue design experience in video games
  • Dialogue system building and integration expertise (Unreal Engine, Wwise)
  • Unreal Engine (Blueprints) and/or scripting language proficiency
  • Understanding of gameplay dialogue systems and interactive storytelling
  • Basic programming/scripting skills (Python, Lua, C#, etc.)
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with audio tools (Pro Tools, Reaper, iZotope RX)
  • Education in audio engineering, computer science, or game design

Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are looking for a highly technical, imaginative, and experienced Technical Dialogue Designer to join our team at Atomic Arcade. As Technical Dialogue Designer, reporting to the Dialogue Lead, you will bridge the gap between narrative design and game systems, ensuring that dialogue is immersive, functional, and seamlessly integrated into the gameplay experience. Your expertise in crafting dialogue systems will play a crucial role in delivering top-quality interactive storytelling for our games.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with the creative director, dialogue lead, gameplay designers, and writers to develop and implement dialogue systems that align with our game’s needs and vision.
  • Own the scripting, integration, and testing of dialogue content using Unreal blueprints, native code and Wwise.
  • Collaborate closely with Programmers to refine dialogue system functionality, ensuring compatibility with gameplay mechanics and technical constraints.
  • Build tools and workflows to support the efficient implementation of dialogue assets.
  • Provide input on how dialogue design can improve the player experience, including pacing, tone, and emotional engagement.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Proven experience in a dialogue design or similar role within the video game industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building systems and integrating dialogue using proprietary software tools or industry-standard platforms such as Unreal Engine, Wwise, and others.
  • Expertise with Unreal Engine (Blueprints) and/or other similar scripting languages.
  • High level understanding of gameplay dialogue systems and interactive storytelling.
  • Basic programming and/or scripting skills (e.g., Python, Lua, C#, or equivalent).

 

Nice to Have:

· Familiarity use with professional audio tools: Pro Tools, Reaper, iZotope RX, etc.

· Pertinent accredited education in audio engineering, computer science, game design, or related fields.

 

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

· Starting Pay Range: $90,700

· Pay Range End: $170,400
