Job Description

As a Technical Director - Cinematics & Realization at Ubisoft Bordeaux, you'll collaborate closely with the Realization Director and production team on a new project. Responsibilities include defining and maintaining cinematic pipelines, providing support and training to the cinematic team, mastering engine systems for cinematic integration, defining dev tools/engine requirements, and serving as the cinematic production chain reference. You'll coordinate with the Realization Director, create documentation, guarantee pipeline optimization, and balance quality with efficiency. The role requires experience in AAA game production as a Technical Director in cinematic production or realization, proficiency in game engines, pipeline development, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a passion for cinematography and storytelling.
Must have:
  • AAA game production experience as Technical Director
  • Game engine/editor expertise and pipeline development
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of cinematography and storytelling

Ubisoft Bordeaux

Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a free to play game, BattleCore Arena. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) as well as on the Anvil game engine. Ubisoft Bordeaux is also home to a R&D team, La Forge, which brings together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes for game production, particularly around AI topics.

Job Description

As a Technical Director - Cinematics & Realization, you will work closely with the Realization Director and the production team of a new project in development at the studio of Bordeaux. 

This role will involve close collaboration, and you will engage with all teams (specifically with Cinematic and Narrative teams) to support, define and maintain the cinematic pipeline through technical and artistic requirements. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Define and maintain cinematic pipelines through technical and artistic requirements expected by the project 
  • Provide constant support and training to the cinematic team members 
  • Master the engine’s systems for cinematic integration cutscenes, triggers, customization, etc. 
  • Define and monitor dev tools/engine requirements for cinematics setup and debugging 
  • Be the reference for the cinematics production chain on the DCC side (3dsmax / Motion Builder / Maya .. ) and on the engine side (Timeline editor, etc.) 
  • Master the engine’s systems linked to cinematic rendering needs (animation, camera, rendering, lighting, sfx, vfx, etc.) 
  • Coordinate with Realization Director / TD datas to adjust and define technical guidelines in line with engine constraints & capacity. 
  • Create and maintain documentation for all aspects of Technical Direction 
  • Guarantee the optimization and performance of the cinematic pipeline in the engine 
  • Balance quality with efficiency when working under tight deadlines 

Qualifications

  • Experience in at least one full AAA videogame production as Technical Director working in Cinematic production or Realization 
  • Experience in game engine/editors, and in developing and maintaining pipelines 
  • Capacity to clearly articulate and communicate vision and strategy 
  • Quick to adapt and good priority management skills 
  • Ability to understand quickly and solve problems with a ‘can do attitude’. 
  • Aware of new technologies and processes related to the industry 
  • Good understanding of narrative causality and logic 
  • Passion for realization and cinematography with a great understanding of its importance in expressive storytelling. 

Additional Information

  • Contract: Permanent contract 
  • Location: role based in Bordeaux – France
  • On-Site based position - Weekly work from home pace to define
