Job Description

Creative Collaboration:Partner with the Creative Director to achieve the vision for the gameplay experience in the open world, missions, and game modes.

Design and ImplementationLead the detailed design, in-engine implementation, and balancing of gameplay activities (missions, combat encounters, boss fights, interactive challenges) in coordination with content & narrative, system design, and assets teams.

Revamping Existing Features:Assess and improve existing open world maps, level designs, and quest features to enhance player experience and gameplay balance. Fix issues in open world map level design and level art to meet quality expectations.

Team Leadership:Guide and mentor the level design team, ensuring alignment with design goals and quality standards.Provide feedback and validation on team deliveries to meet the Creative Director’s expectations.

Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Work closely with content, system, art & animation, and gameplay programming teams to ensure optimal communication and achieve desired results.
  • Validate and secure all elements required for in-engine implementation (Exotic Gameplay, AI, Cameras, Audio, Text, Objectives).

Design Documentation:Create detailed design documentation for open world activities, missions, quests, and game modes.

Gameplay Evaluation:

  • Continuously evaluate the accessibility, ease of understanding, and difficulty level of designs to create clear and intuitive gameplay experiences.
  • Propose new activities, missions, and quests in collaboration with narrative and content teams that fit the overall game vision.

Tool and Pipeline Development:

  • Participate in developing and improving tools for missions and narrative implementation workflows.
  • Revamp existing tools to enhance efficiency in configuring and balancing the game.

Optimization and Problem-Solving:

  • Find solutions to fix buggy features and optimize systems, advocating for necessary reworks.
  • Demonstrate pragmatism in design decisions to prioritize and develop a live product with regular updates.

Best Practices and Standards: Set and share best practices for design, documentation, workflows, methodologies, and tooling.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge :Passionate about playing and creating RPG and/or looter-shooter games. In-depth knowledge of top AAA RPG and open world games, ideally in the GaaS genre.

Experience: XP in AAA game development as a level and quest designer, ideally in a lead role. Experience shipping at least one AAA game in level design or quest design.

Proficiency with Game Engines (Unity or Unreal) and scripting language systems.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to design creative and engaging game levels using 3D tools (Unreal Editor, Unity Engine, Maya, Max, Blender, or similar).
  • Experience with linear and non-linear narrative structures in mission and quest design.
  • Understanding of technical constraints for narrative design on current-gen consoles & PC; mobile platform knowledge is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Creative, flexible, and open to feedback and iterations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative mindset.
  • Attention to detail and high standards of work quality.
  • Fluent in English
