Job Description

The Tooling & Die Manager at Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin will lead the HPDC and IMM Tooling and Process team. Responsibilities include managing tool build projects, day-to-day tool maintenance, driving continuous improvements, implementing new technology, and ensuring quality and safety standards. The role involves managing engineers and supervisors, optimizing production output and efficiency, leading process development and tool validation, creating and managing tooling budgets, and actively managing tool rebuild plans. Problem-solving, root cause analysis, and collaboration with various departments are key aspects of this position. The manager will also develop new tooling and fixtures, track relevant metrics, and foster a positive work environment.

The Role: Responsible for leading HPDC and IMM Tooling and Process team to improve operations by leading die build projects and day to day tool sustaining activities, driving continuous improvements, and Implementing new technology, while meeting quality and safety standards.
What You’ll Do
  • Manage team of engineers and supervisors to lead all aspects of tool build and maintenance
  • Engineer HPDC/IMM tools and process to increase production output and efficiency at best possible cost.
  • Lead process development and tool validation activities
  • Create, collect and release all required tool and process documentation for use of sustaining team • Lead tooling and process sustaining team by focusing on best possible yield and uptime
  • Create and manage tooling budget for casting operations
  • Actively manage tool rebuild plan to have sufficient tools to support production
  • Strive for best possible cycle time by optimization of equipment and parameters
  • Lead root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for all tool and process related production issues
  • Develop new tooling and fixtures to improve operations
  • Create, track & use metrics that emphasizes safety, quality, efficiency & cost
  • Partner with Production Operations, Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance to develop and execute production ramps
  • Database management of models and documentation for all tools
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of HPDC Tooling management experience in a production environment.
  • Experience with tooling for structural automotive components
  • Experience supervising engineering teams.
  • Experience resolving conflict.
  • Experience in hiring and developing team members and leaders.
  • Experience in Castings Production environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate to all levels in the organization, including large group presentations and translate complex ideas into a simple easy to understand format.
  • Foster a professional atmosphere of respect and growth.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills (man, method, machine, material, etc...).
  • Able to effectively multitask
