Our challenge
We are seeking a highly experienced Trade Surveillance Business Analyst with over 10 years of expertise in trading, risk management, and compliance to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing trading activities, identifying potential violations, and enhancing surveillance systems to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate risks.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $100k - $120k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret trading data, market activity, and related systems to identify suspicious behaviors and potential market abuse.
- Gather and document business requirements related to trade surveillance processes and technology enhancements.
- Collaborate with IT and other stakeholders to design, develop, and implement surveillance rules, scenarios, and alert workflows.
- Conduct gap analysis of existing surveillance systems and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and review alerts generated by surveillance systems, perform investigations, and document findings.
- Stay updated with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to market abuse and trade surveillance.
- Facilitate communication between business and technical teams to ensure surveillance tools meet operational needs.
- Provide training and support to end-users and surveillance analysts.
- Lead or support projects related to the deployment of new surveillance solutions or upgrades.
- Prepare reports and dashboards for senior management on surveillance activities, findings, and compliance status.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in trade surveillance, market risk, trading operations, or a related field.
- Deep understanding of financial markets, trading instruments, and market abuse regulations (e.g., MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, SEC rules).
- Proven experience in business analysis, including requirements gathering, process modeling, and solution design.
- Strong knowledge of trade surveillance systems (e.g., SMARTS, Actimize, Omgeo, etc.) and rule development.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
- Ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, CQF, CIA) preferred.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience with data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies.
