Job Description

As a UI Technical Artist, you will bridge the gap between art and engineering to ensure game interfaces are visually stunning and technically optimized. You will transform UI designs into functional in-game elements like menus and HUDs. You will develop shaders, materials, and animations. You will work closely with UI/UX designers and engineers to implement dynamic and responsive interfaces, optimizing UI performance and refining interaction logic. This role is crucial in creating a polished and immersive experience for the game.

As a UI Technical Artist at Notorious, you will bridge the gap between art and engineering, ensuring our game interfaces are both visually stunning and technically optimized. Your expertise will transform UI designs from Figma into fully functional, performant in-game elements, bringing menus, HUDs, and interactive components to life.


In this role, you will develop shaders, materials, and animations that enhance the tactile and immersive feel of the UI. You will work closely with UI/UX designers and engineers to implement dynamic, responsive interfaces that seamlessly integrate with gameplay. Your ability to solve complex technical challenges—such as optimizing UI performance, managing asset pipelines, and refining interaction logic—will be crucial in crafting an experience that feels both polished and immersive.

What project you'd be working on


We're currently building a new core fantasy RPG game for PC/Console using Unreal 5 called Legacy: Steel & Sorcery. Elements of this project include extraction, open worlds, core RPG fantasy theme, PvPvE, third-person action-based combat, player stories, and engaging systems.

Responsibilities


  • Material Creation and Implementation: Develop custom Ui Materials using the Unreal Material Editor and HLSL/GLSL/CG and implementing them using Blueprints and UMG.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Designers and Artists to help realize the creative vision, while providing feedback and collaborative input.

  • Technical Integration: Work closely with engineers to integrate UI components in engine. Optimize UI performance and troubleshoot issues related to user interface functionality.

  • Documentation and Guidelines: Create comprehensive documentation for UI/UX guidelines and design specifications to be used by the development team.


Required Qualifications


  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 4+ with UMG UI Designer

  • Expertise in creating custom Materials (Shaders) using the Unreal Material Editor

  • Experience with implementing art and animation assets into engine via Unreal Blueprints

  • Ability to format art assets and interpret them for use in engine

  • Ability to create AAA quality UI art assets (Icons, Animations, Fonts, etc) within the Adobe Suite from concept to implementation

  • A profile showcasing your work, including Materials (Shaders)


Ideally, you have (but not required):


  • Experience with both stylized and realistic art styles

  • Experience doing UI/UX Design

  • Familiarity with creating or editing custom Materials (Shaders)
