DCS is seeking a skilled Vegetation Removal Technician to maintain railyards and railroad rights-of-way. This hands-on role involves removing overgrown vegetation, brush, and debris from active and inactive rail property, not routine lawn care. The ideal candidate will have recent landscape clean-up experience, be familiar with chainsaws and weed cutters, and have a history of outdoor vegetation removal work. This position is crucial for ensuring railroad areas are clear, safe, and compliant with operational standards.
Must have:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 21+ years of age
  • Valid driver's license with 5 years clean driving
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening
  • Experience with chainsaws and weed cutters
  • Physically able to work long hours outdoors in tough conditions
Good to have:
  • Recent experience in landscape clean-up
  • Familiarity with industrial or utility environments
  • Knowledge of railroad safety procedures
  • Previous work clearing railroads, utility, or industrial sites

Job Description

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Vegetation Removal Technician to join our team in clearing and maintaining railyards and railroad rights-of-way. This role is hands-on and labor-intensive, focused on the removal of overgrown vegetation, brush, and debris from active and inactive rail property—not routine lawn care or irrigation.

The ideal candidate will have recent experience in landscape clean-up, strong familiarity with chainsaws and weed cutters, and a solid work history performing rugged, outdoor vegetation removal work. This position plays a critical role in keeping railroad areas clear, safe, and compliant with operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform vegetation removal and clean-up in and around railyards, tracks, and railroad rights-of-way
  • Use and maintain chainsaws, weed cutters, brush cutters, and other power equipment safely and effectively
  • Remove overgrowth, brush, and other plant material that could interfere with rail operations
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with railroad safety protocols and guidelines
  • Work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions, including near active rail lines
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work efficiently with a team or independently

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • 21+ years of age
  • Valid driver’s license with 5 years of clean driving experience.
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening (railroad compliance requirements)
  • Ability to travel up to two weeks at a time; hotel accommodation and per diem provided by DCS.
  • Recent, hands-on experience in landscape maintenance and vegetation clean-up (preferably in industrial or utility environments)
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with chainsaws and weed cutters
  • Physically able to work long hours outdoors in tough conditions (heat, brush, uneven terrain)
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn railroad safety procedures and site protocols
  • Previous work clearing railroads, utility, or industrial sites preferred.
  • Familiarity with railroad right-of-way regulations and vegetation management standards

Pay rate: $20.00/hour
