Job Description

We are seeking a qualified watchmaker to assist in the inspection and authentication of vintage and modern luxury watches. This role ensures watch buyers receive high-quality, authentic products by inspecting the case, strap, movement, and crystal, performing basic functional tests, and verifying components are correct and brand-provided. The Watchmaker will record findings as part of the inspection process. This role is based in Moonachie, NJ.
Good To Have:

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environment to meet SLAs
  • Desire to keep up with changes, advances, and trends in the watch industry
  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks and adapt to process changes

Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified watchmaker to assist in the inspection and authentication of vintage and modern luxury watches. This role will be part of a team to ensure that watch buyers are receiving high quality, authentic products. The Junior Watchmaker will be responsible for inspecting the case, strap, movement, crystal and performing basic functional tests of watches to ensure that components are correct for the model and that all components of the watch are authentic, brand-provided parts. The Watchmaker will then record their findings as one step in the inspection process. This role is based in Moonachie, NJ. Relocation assistance could be offered in certain instances.

Watchmaker responsibilities:

  • Inspect, identify, and authenticate timepieces across all luxury watch brands
  • Inspect internal and external components and function of watches to determine authenticity, including skillfully opening and reassembling the watch
  • Test basic functions of the movement to ensure watches are working correctly.
  • Inspect watches for missing components such as screws, pushers, etc.
  • Ensure each watch is clean after each inspection
  • Record authenticity, condition, and product data of each watch
  • Ensure that gear trains, escapements, lubrication, torque, and precision tolerances often measured in microns are managed and maintained throughout the inspection process
  • Ensure the proper handling of watches being conscious of parts removal, avoiding scratching or blemishing surfaces or parts, and ensuring proper reconstruction after inspection
  • Uphold company standards including training, workstation cleanliness, and open communication

Authenticator qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience on the components, movements, materials, and models of watches across luxury brands
  • Experience handling vintage and modern watches
  • Knowledgeable about latest trends in counterfeit watches
  • Knowledge of both Quartz and Mechanical movements
  • 5-8 years of experience as a watchmaker within a top brand with duties including servicing, repairing, and authenticating
  • Proficiency with watchmaking equipment and tools.
  • Comfortable working in fast paced environment to meet SLAs
  • Desire to keep up with changes, advances, and trends in the watch industry
  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks and adapt to process changes as work evolves
  • CW21 or equivalent certification preferred
  • Brand certifications from major watch brands preferred

The applicable base pay range for this position is dependent on work location. The base pay range in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City Metro and Seattle Metro is expected in the range below:

40.00 /hr

The base pay range for all other U.S. work locations is expected in the range below:

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
