Job Summary

Job Description

Zeeco seeks a Welding Engineer to oversee welding processes for high-quality fabrication of chemical equipment, including pressure vessels and piping, adhering to ASME, API, and EN codes. Responsibilities include planning, developing, and qualifying welding procedures (WPS, PQR, WPQ), selecting appropriate welding processes, and providing technical guidance during fabrication. The role also involves supporting production, resolving welding issues, managing non-conformities, and ensuring weld quality and safety standards. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate NDE, maintain welding records, review materials and consumables, and contribute to project documentation and safety practices. The position requires a degree in welding or mechanical engineering, IWE qualification, and strong communication skills.
Must have:
  • Proficiency in welding codes (ASME VIII Div.1, ASME IX, API 650/660, PED). AWS D1.1, EN15614, ISO9606, GB47014/47013
  • Good knowledge of vessel and/or pressure piping
  • Familiarity with fabrication of stainless steel, carbon steel, and corrosion-resistant alloys
  • Strong understanding of heat treatment, distortion control, and welding metallurgy
  • Bachelor degree or above in welding engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
  • IWE qualification
  • 5 years minimal experience in welding engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical drawing interpretation
  • Welding process optimization
  • Root cause analysis and troubleshooting
  • Documentation and report writing
Good to have:
  • Certification such as AWS-CWI or CSWIP is a plus
  • Ability to communicate with customer independently

Skill Set

    • Proficiency in welding codes (ASME VIII Div.1, ASME IX, API 650/660, PED). AWS D1.1, EN15614, ISO9606, GB47014/47013
    • Good knowledge of vessel and or pressure piping.
    • Familiar with fabrication of stainless steel, carbon steel, and corrosion-resistant alloys (e.g., 316L, Hastelloy, Inconel).
    • Strong understanding of heat treatment, distortion control, and welding metallurgy.
    • Knowledge of metalogical and heat treatment. 

    • Bachelor degree or above in welding engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
    • IWE qualification
    • Certification such as AWS-CWI or CSWIP is a plus.

    • 5 years minimal experience in welding engineering, preferably in pressure vessel or chemical equipment fabrication.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
    • Strong basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office.
    • Good English read/written capability, ability to communicate with customer independently.

Responsibilities

    • The Welding Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing welding processes and procedures to ensure high-quality fabrication of chemical equipment, including pressure vessels, piping, and related components, in compliance with applicable codes (ASME, API, EN, etc.). The role involves supporting production, resolving welding issues, and ensuring weld quality and safety standards.
    • This position is also responsible for the technology of PWHT. 

    • Welding Procedure Development
    • -          Prepare and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) according to ASME Section IX and other codes.
      -          Select appropriate welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, etc.) based on material and design requirements.
    • Manufacturing Support
    • -          Submit the weld map to the project and communicate upon the customer comments and get the final approval before manufacturing.
      -          Provide technical guidance during fabrication, including fit-up, welding, and heat treatment processes.
      -          Supervise or support welders and ensure compliance with approved procedures.
      -          Evaluate and resolve welding-related non-conformities (e.g., porosity, undercut, cracks).
    • Quality Assurance & Inspection
    • -          Coordinate with QC/QA for NDE (RT, UT, PT, MT) as per project requirements.
      -          Ensure welding records and traceability documentation are maintained and meet customer and regulatory requirements.
    • Material & Process Control
    • -          Review and verify base materials, filler materials, and consumables.
      -          Support materials selection and compatibility for corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
    • Project Documentation
    • -          Review customer specifications, engineering drawings, and relevant standards.
      -          Participate in project meetings and support documentation for final dossier submission.
    • Health & Safety
    • -          Promote safe welding practices and compliance with occupational safety regulations.
