Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a WordPress Developer Support Engineer and work in our Information Technology department (This is a 2 year project hire). Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, Idaho facility with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities are available for this position.

You will report to the Manager of Application Delivery Services and you will maintain and secure WordPress environment and applications and work to migrate existing SharePoint sites to our WordPress environment. You will also administer INL’s WordPress environment.

Responsibilities Include

  • Works with customers to develop/creative solutions to our needs. Migrates existing SharePoint sites to WordPress. Use knowledge in industry standards and solutions surrounding WordPress hosting and how to implement them to suggest and implement creative well-designed solutions consistent with the objectives provided by customers.
  • Identify organizational needs and work with lead to present those needs to customers. Take ownership of directives and tasks that have been assigned to you and follows them through to completion. Working to completion includes working with the testing organization and customers to validate those solutions meet needs and quality expectations.
  • Frequent contact with customers to communicate progress and ensure that it is consistent with customer direction
  • Apply software engineering principles, theories, and concepts to processes and information display and visualization.
  • Plan, develop and implement software-engineering solutions to complex problems and major projects.
  • Work to support project plans and requirements, establish scope, cost and schedule estimates for development activities.
  • Participate in technical reviews for projects at multiple phases of development and provide recommendations for computer technology solutions to customers and management’s needs.
  • Maintain and upgrade a variety of systems, and develop new software capabilities.
  • Create new methodologies and architectures that advance the organizations’ mission.
  • Document activities, reports, existing technologies.
  • Review source code and system design documentation, reports from users, and other technical artifacts to create reports and present to other staff and management assessments of code quality, the probable origin and implications of defects and anomalies, and recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
  • Engage in professional development to maintain technical proficiency in current and emerging technologies.
  • Utilize expertise to define strategic direction in assigned areas.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors plus 2 - 5+ years experience or Advanced Degree and 1 - 3+ years relevant experience or 10+ years relevant education/experience in lieu of a bachelors. Relevant Degrees: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems.
  • Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining WordPress applications.
  • Experience with SQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with version control.
  • Experience supporting WordPress.
  • You are subject to the requirements of DOE O 142.3B, Unclassified Foreign National Access Program.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Experience deploying applications through an Azure DevOps Pipeline.
  • Experience with containerization technologies.
  • Experience supporting WordPress including developing custom WordPress components.
